Why the story is rushing? I wish they could have increased the number of episodes.
Yeah, it seems to jump a bit, but I guess they feel those are not important parts. As it is with 61 episodes, I'm surprised they are not being forced to trim down to 40 episodes or so by the authority.

The 2 main leads are not together. He dies and she lives on.
Super depressing, and makes you feel helpless. Good production though in terms of acting and story telling.

You want historical stories with sad endings? Plenty! Try "Goodbye My Princess" and "The Wolf". "The Heiress" and "Song of Glory" have endings up to interpretation. I have loved them all. Enjoy!

In the beginning, WKX is the one making the move to be closer to ZZS, and initiates many attempted touches which ZZS avoids. In later episodes when WKX's identity is revealed, and ZZS begins to call him shidi, it's ZZS who begins to want to hug him (WKX) and feels that he is close to him because of this brotherly relationship. So, yeah, the dynamics have changed.

At the beginning of the series, the BL elements are so strong, even with many dubbed lines changed from the original lines spoken by the actors; everyone wonders how it passes censorship. By episode 22, it's become subdue and the dynamics change into brotherly. I still like the series because I like the two lead characters, the acting and the plot.

This is such a realistic drama - no love at first sight, no firework romance (yet), there is fighting but no wuxia, a lot of conflicts in almost every household (realistic aristocratic family portrayal of the era) and in politics (true historical events eg. banning of sea trade), strong Confucius values and philosophy permeate daily life. Great watch!

By ep. 22, it feels like a brotherly relationship. If you mean the half naked bath scene explosive, then I don't think you need to be worried about censorship :)
