It is in the Chinese culture to address people they meet as kindred, eg. for men of their fathers' age, uncles; for women of their mothers' age, aunties; and for people of their own age, brothers or sisters. In this case, the brother/sister relationship is deeper than the casual usage of the terms. At the same time, there's nothing preventing them to have romantic/marital relationship; it's all up to the individuals how they feel about each other, and should not be considered as incestuous.

Admittedly Ling Xiao's mom has a mental breakdown, and then the accident in which she lost her husband a second time and herself almost paralyzed. Pulling back from that nadir takes a lot of efforts and she makes it. So don't hate her but empathize with her :)

You know, his mom is very relatable. Many parents behave exactly like that without realizing it themselves. If we were parents, I'm not surprised we behave like that too ourselves. This drama is so good because it's playing out all the traits, good and bad, we have in ourselves and magnifying them for us to see. For example, there are many insensitive comments made by those gossipy neighbors and other parents. On the surface, those comments sound harmless, but they can be hurtful. I'm pretty sure we have made similar comments ourselves without realizing it.
I just love this show! But is anyone also already getting annoyed by Ming Yue? I mean it's also Long Xiao fault…
Why do you want to be annoyed with Ming Yue? Have more faith. She's a good and decent person. She'd make the right decision. She's being set up for ....
