Yes, Xiao Zhan is a very outstanding person in every sense. I'm always amazed by his matured thinking at such a young age. He always puts others first which is very admirable and a role model for all of us.

Much that I love this drama myself, we have to appreciate that not everyone in this world feel the same as we do. It's like, I love Chinese classical music, but we don't see the world listening to this genre, including the Chinese in the mainland themselves. And in fact, classical music generally, including western classical, is becoming an endangered genre in today's world.

It's hard to accept criticisms especially towards something we treasure. But it also at the same time helps us grow and become better ourselves in seeing things through a different lens. A lot of the unrest we see today is caused by bottled-up frustrations. As humans, we need outlets to vent. Therefore, we should be magnanimous when someone comes to this page to vent his/her frustrations. After all, I don't think we should take it too personally. Furthermore, such criticisms come rarely. We should just move on and enjoy what we have already got out from this drama.

Yes, I do agree with you, the nuances, that make the whole thing feel differently. Let me run another direct translation for you:
LZ: You treat me as what? (verbatim)
(This is definitely closer to "Who am I to you" than "Who do you take me for?" because "Who do you take me for" feels accusative, whereas "Who am I to you" feels like LZ really wants to know his position in WY's heart.)

The words WY uses for confidant are "zhi ji" meaning "know self" ie . someone who knows deeply about me. I feel soulmate is perhaps the closest in English translation.

For exactly the same reason, the translations for the song lyrics lose out a lot of the deeper underlying feelings of the songs. The English lyrics maybe flowing and may sound beautiful, but the loss of the Chinese characters totally change the feel of the songs.

This is one of my favorite scenes too. Lan Zhan always finds all sort of excuses to approach Wei Ying. He lets his heart carry him and he has no control over his heart. Oh man, I want to cry.

LZ: Who do you take me for?
WY: I had once taken you as the soulmate (confidant) of my life.
LZ: I'm still that (soulmate)
(Deep gazes, love and longing conveyed ......)

The English translation here is good.

Again, the term horror has very different meaning for different people. For example, "Poltergeist" freaked me out. This drama's horror is nothing compared to that. You can say the "horror" here is quite, err, (.....), well, I don't really want to say it out or else get my butt kicked. I can assure you, even demonic, it is beautiful! You'll want to watch it. You'll come back and tell us you're glad that you watch it. :D

Yep, completely relate and agree! I saw the videos appearing on my subscribed Youtube Tencent channel, and I thought, "Wow! Hot men." I had no idea who Xiao Zhan and Wang Yibo were. Never heard of them. Never watched their dramas. But the visual of them on the video thumbnails was too irresistible - they were too beautiful, too ethereal.

I was also curious with the titles of the drama - the Chinese and English versions don't match. I could understand the English title that hinted there would be a character that didn't abide to rules and I love this type of character. But what was the meaning of the Chinese title, I wondered. I knew there was love as "Chen Qing" means old flame. So I was thinking, "Is this going to be a sad romance?" And I love romance dramas.

Like many viewers, I was confused at the beginning scenes, but as Mo Xuanyu entered the Mo hall and causing all the ruckus, I started to fall in love with that cute character, and everything that followed became history. I watched all the aired episodes (like 10) in one sitting. I was so hooked.

Like what @DogmaticPrincess correctly said, "how such an insignificant decision opened up a whole entire world of awesome". Yes, I feel so blessed that I chanced across this drama, and now it has open my eyes to another world. This experience is truly amazing!
