I'm reading the novel but I feel like it's just common sense that the drama and novel are going to be different. They're two completely different ways of storytelling. Like for example, Jia er has a brother Rufeng who just isn't in the drama which makes sense because his role is really minor compared to hers. It's like painting the same object but in two different mediums. An oil painting will have different strokes than if the artist were to use oil pastels.

Agreed, I was just asking for people's opinions because I think it's an interesting discussion to have. I think having assumptions and hunches are a large part of what makes both reading and watching the drama fun because you're thinking about what the characters are going to do next. It's the anticipation!

Usually, there's a notice at the beginning of the video saying its machine translated. I'm not convinced they're machine translated because there are barely any errors lol. The only error I've really noticed is putting the word "an" in front of eunuch when it should be "a eunuch" which seems more like human error in that whoever is translating just doesn't know the nitty gritty grammatical rule exceptions of English.
