I don't know if anyone has ever read (or attempted to read) the source novel for this, but it's utterly dreadful. The plot is OK but the writing suggests a particularly thick teenager . . .
Both actors do actual 'acting' rather than that weird, blank-face (don't want to spoil the botox/filler) thing, so am looking forward to this. The plot looks good, too.
I knew, in the very first episode, when the FL turned into a violent, screeching harpy (because the ML accidentally 'spilled her pint') that this would be trash but I (stupidly) persisted.
And my worst fears were confirmed.
Not only is the premise creepy (pretending to be a psychiatrist and then macking on your 'patient') but the leads had no chemistry. Zero, zilch, none,
They treated Japanese like they some kind of Nazi, which was funny ... Netflix saw the rating and made a stupid…
Maybe read a history book once in a while. Yes, during WW2 (and before that, the occupation of Korea) the Japanese Imperial Army was just as vile as the Nazis and just as vile as British Colonialism.
You just couldn't announce the return to TV of one of Korea's finest actors without mentioning an old, overblown,…
This 'writer' never improves in translating, either. He/she/it still can't translate pronouns correctly, despite them being correct in the source material. It must be one of the MDL admin. Nobody else would get so much leeway.
For the avoidance of doubt, these aren't real, independent awards like the Baeksang Arts Awards (nominations and awards done independently, by a jury of experts). This is the wankfest of a single TV company, which only looks at its own dramas: hence the multiple baffling (and trivialised) categories.
I know the Japanese occupation of Korea is still a sore topic for many Koreans, I feel this series probably lead…
I can't imagine, if a film was made (and they continue to be) about the Holocaust, anyone saying "I hope this doesn't portray the Nazis in a bad light". You would, literally, be laughed out of the room.
Ditto if a film was made about vile, British colonialism.
But I constantly read. on here, comments like this.
What history is taught in Japan, seriously? About the brutal (and it was) occupation of Korea? About the - organised - rape and murder of hundreds of thousands of women and girls (comfort women)? About the 200,000 Asian people murdered as part of the unit 731 experiments?
The plot is, on the face of it, cliched up the yin-yang, so it's good that a couple of actors are fucking off lazy-ass writers. I say 'writers' but if all you're doing is stitching together regurgitated tropes can you call yourself one?
Are we sure it's 'Knight Flower' and not 'Night Flower'? The words have quite different meanings. The source, which calls the drama 'Flowers which bloom at night' would suggest the latter.
dont care but when are we going to delete the thousand burners who target and lower the rating of all 2023 shows?…
To be fair to the fans of My Demon, very few of them are claiming that the plot, or acting, is good. They are - very openly - frotting themselves into a frenzy about 'the visuals' and 'the kiss' and 'the chemistry' (though the last, for many people, might be a function of the first two). We all like different things.
Good grief.
