did you watch it since then? I've not watched any of his dramas since and may dive into some like Legend of Zhang Hai, but I'm not eager to start this one again lol

Loved so many things to do with this drama - obviously I didn't believe the FL could really be a man but I'll look past that as part of the fantasy. She still kicked ass and overall it was a feminist drama 🙌.

That's the entire point. Historical China did not allow women to enlist in the army so the only way she could was to disguise as a man. Same thing as Mulan. They could only reveal themselves to be women and fight for women's rights when they won. Later FL in this drama also fights in her own female identity.

in the First Frost it was a lovely connection to have her play the supporting role because Zhou Ye wrote both novels When I Fly Towards You and The First Frost (and Hidden Love). but yeah I agree it was surprising to see her in this drama in yet another supporting role. When she is a very 'main character' type of actress

I had the impression XXF was just using He Rui Fei as a puppet figure, easy to control and nothing more. He just didn't anticipate HRF to go wild and do big mistakes on his own (like killing all the General's, which XXF did not see coming at all). it's fitting XXF didn't see the problem in playing the long game with real He Rui Fei

they are really soft and loving eyes 😭❤️ like you can totally believe he is in love with whichever actress is playing the FL when he gazes at them that way 🥺. how could anyone not fall in love with him?

for real I found myself rewartching some of his scenes in Legend of Female General. what a face card 🔥 what a lovely smile 🥰 and what soft eyes he has 🥰🥰

the chemistry in those dramas (particularly You Are My Glory) was off the charts and both were amazing overall. The author and main lead casting giving me high hopes for this drama!

you lasted longer than me lol. I dropped it in Episode 6. I know the FL is meant to be you V, but I also wished she would be more logical and less stiff. I also came for Xiao Zhan but will look for something else of his to watch now. disappointing to say the least

I'm sad I had to drop this drama in Episode 6. I was just sooo bored and couldn't watch any longer. Plus I could tell they were going ahead with tropes I disliked. Sorry because I love Xiao Zhan and wanted to watch him more after The Untamed 😞. Does it actually get any better?

Saaame 😅. Once I became drama obsessed I had to get Viki as a backup for all the K & Cdramad not on Netflix. But now not even Viki has this drama. Such a popular and in demand drama but only Youko has it. wtf 😭

yes and I get that too, particularly in most the scenes when they are younger in the High School phase, you can sense his love/hope more. And also in the scenes where she sleepwalks or gives him indirect messages. But overall it is a more darker themed drama than the other dramas by the same author, although not tragic or sad in any sense

he was a child actor and has been spoiled, and also thinks Yifan is a big fan of his. He probably just thinks he can follow her around and flirt and she'll be easy game for him. He does seem creepy though, his face when Sang Yan showed up at the airport lol

I also subscribed to Youko. After this drama I'll cancel it anyway, I just couldn't wait for Netflix to out the next episodes up. I've found my favourite drama of the year in February 😅

but other times with victims it can also work the other way. They've been abused or harassed so much that they have lesser boundaries than normal. Obviously someone following you to your house against your wishes is weird and they deserve to be slapped. But she accepts him under the guise of a 'friend' and as she seems unable to tell him to back off. Hopefully she becomes stronger and builds more boundaries as the drama goes on.

I didn't deny about emotional depth in HL. I just meant it was a much more 'innocent' kind of drama because we don't see much of Jiaxu's past apart from flashbacks if you know what I mean. We weren't in his POV a lot of the time, whereas we are in Wen Yifan's POV all the time, and that's why The First Frost feels darker eventhough it's still comforting.

someone is saying in other comments that it's because it's not a Netflix original so they have to wait to be given green light from Youko for the next epiosdes. and then it will also be on Viki too. but we don't know how long that will be 😔

but because Hidden Love is from Sang Zhi's POV, it seems light and innocent with small doses of Jiaxu's traumstic story. Whereas The First Frost is from Wen Yifan who has had a very tough life so far. she is almost complete opposite to Sang Zhi

not that long because the drama is 32 episodes. Most dramas have them get together by the half way point, which would be around Ep 16 or so.
