My biggest problems with the character were what I said here. Sounds like you're taking my criticism of a professional actor's mediocre skillset very personally. His acting needs work. That is objectively true, to deny that is actually worse for him. Blind praise makes it so a person never improves. I literally gave the drama a good score and I liked the ML character for the most part. I'm not a child so I can separate issues I have with a drama and still am able to enjoy it.

For sure! Their romance felt very abrupt and didn't make sense to me but they spent so much time on it. I also just didn't understand the FL's entire plot. Her actions wouldn't have changed anything unless she really thought that she had transmigrated into her mom's body. But she knows her mom is in the states and still exists in that universe. Her mom had her own thoughts and feelings, she couldn't force those onto her. She knows that her dad is going to join her in a year so her actions literally wouldn't have changed anything.

Also I just so can't buy into the fact that as her daughter she looks IDENTICAL to her mom as a teenager. Even Angelina Jolie and Reese Witherspoon who have daughers that look super similar to them still aren't identical. There's a massive suspension of disbelief that goes into enjoying this show and idk it was difficult for me.

Yichan was by far the star of this show and I'm glad he had so many scenes with Eungyeol. I wish Chungah would have also been given the same care. I really loved the little bit of romance we got between her and Yichan but they showed so much more of him chasing after Sekyoung, they should have devoted a little more time to him falling for Chungah. What I'm REALLY bummed about is though that we got so few scenes between Chungah and Eungyeol. I know this show centered more on the father son relationship, which was very sweet, but if they would have cut down on the mediocre romance between the ML and FL (and her storyline entirely) they would have had plenty of time to develop the mother-son bond as well. Her life was so sad and lonely for such a long time, I would have liked to see her process of opening up and finding her voice through signing.

Sorry for the long reply lmao. I got invested in this show and I did enjoy it quite a bit, there are just some parts that I wish were different.

It's always the bitches that have no problem with old women dating young men in dramas like "Find Yourself" where the lead actress is literally SIXTEEN years older than the male lead yet you have issues with dramas where the man is older. I cant figure out if youre literally ten years old and dont know how life works or if youre one of the old women with these double standards?

The episode i was talking about was the one with the day of the rehearsal. This is where i have to question his intelligence. Just because he stopped the earlier rehearsal doesnt mean something bad couldnt happen later. To play it safe, considering the stakes at hand, he should have stayed with him the entire day. Going and meeting up with Eunyu should not have been his priority. I feel pretty much the same about the car accident that happens near the end but I'll give him a bit more grace because at this point he knew all about Eunyu and her circumstances and she also told him the specifics about the accident so he was much more inclined to believe they were in the clear. Im still annoyed because a smart person would have stayed with his dad no matter what, but whatever. I will forever be pissed at his actions in ep 11 though. Literal dumbass character, bad writing.

Most lovable SML and SFL in a drama. I was so invested in their story.

There were a lot of great moments but also a lot of irritating aspects. A 7/10 overall. Not a masterpiece, but definitely good and worth watching.

Castaway Diva is nothing like 2521. Like, at all.

Interest of Love wasn't great but I have no clue why the rating is SO low. It's ridiculous that the most cheesy bland cliche shows are all rated 8+ (I'm not talking about 2521, but other shitty shows) but one that is darker and intense gets a 6.9... It was still interesting and the actors were good. The difference is that the characters were morally grey and did bad shit. People can't handle that. I don't think it deserves a high score, but 6.9 for mydramalist that inflates EVERYTHING is actually insane.

Totally agree. They were not able to portray these characters properly. I also personally believe the writing for the FL was just kind of bad though and didn't have the emotional depth that the ML's story did but the actors were also a major part of the problem. The supporting cast were great though and the overall story was good. I give it a 7/10.

Ep 11 and I'm annoyed by the ML. This day is supposed to be the most important one where he can finally prevent his dad from getting into an accident and yet he runs off to meet a girl?? He's supposed to be this intelligent ultra responsible kid but he's acting like an idiot. I'm so annoyed. He's been trying to keep his dad safe this whole time and now at THE MOST important moment he runs off to see a girl. Horrible writing. So inconsistent. It makes me not want to finish it.

And the ML and FL have no chemistry. Could be the actors. Could be the writing. But it's probably both. The ML also overacts like crazy. The dad has to be this obnoxious teenager but he manages to portray it without overdoing it. The ML on the other hand always uses such intense expressions where they aren't needed. And his crying scenes are so over the top, I don't feel bad for him, I'm cringing.

The mom and dad are the best part of this show by far. Acting and writing

Okay so I'm very frustrated by the writing and acting...

I wish there was less Sekyeong/Eunyu screentime. Their backstory and characterizations just aren't making me care about them at all. The ML and his parents are so good, I wish it just focused on them. Especially the mom. I'm on ep 7 and it feels like they've barely shown her at all but every time they do I love her.

I don't think it's the quality of dramas because there's always been good and bad dramas. It's that the demographic has shifted significantly. The pandemic and streaming sites like Netflix brought in a massive new audience, with A LOT of really young people on mydramalist. Even just compare it to 2018 and the ratings are insanely different. 8.5+ rated dramas used to (usually) always indicate a well done show, but now it's impossible to tell. Same with lower rated ones.

Douban tends to be a better ratings site. Not always, but it's more accurate than here.

I'm actually really excited for this to finish airing so I can start it. I don't trust ratings on this site ever and a dumbass ML in a cdrama alone is rare but a XIANXIA? This sounds so fun
