I’m so glad that I read your comment, Arthdal Chronicles is a gem among stones, but I’m not surprised it didn’t…
GOT cast wasn't known but they looked the part. This cast doesn't look like Middle Earth to put it politely. I don't think Amazon has storytelling on their mind. More like virtue signaling.

Amazon "LOTR" is really a fanfic set in Tolkienverse. Nothing to do with LOTR but made-up characters, made-up stories. I think they have rights to some Tolkien work but not LOTR and Hobbit (that's Warner Bros).

I hope that streaming starts doing epic fantasy with K cast and also smut. Bridgerton and 365 Days were huge Netflix hits in SK and they are smutty af. So why keep all those gorgously sculpted actors dressed? Lets see beef!

extracurricular isn't underrated
she always looked so mean in Extracurricular even in scenes which were clearly meant for showing compassion and sympathy. Just couldn't pull it off and based on synopsis her character seemed very extranous to Mouse plot.

well said. shows of that stature either get GOT ratings or end before they started. Like, Netflix changed their viewership rules to assure that The Witcher was a hit. Now if you watch only 2 min of a show that counts as full viewing.

indeed. 12 episodes for Navillera was RIDICULOUS. And what is the point to make a drama about ballet with actors who can't dance for ****? Like, I'm sure there were actors with ballet or at least contemporary dance background. or idols. Headless dance editing looked so bad!

Yeah I can see Studio Dragon opt out of S2. If you check the ratings on Wiki, they weren't stellar and the drama was expesive. So maybe they don't care about international reception or maybe all that money goes to Netflix? I mena, Arthdal SK ratings were below freakin KTEM and that was the worst drama ever made!

that's why I would be really sad if Arthdal experiment failed not just to finish the story but encourage more epic fantasy dramas with their own unique world building and mythology. Atention to detail in this drama is incredible. It's such a rich universe. So I'd like to see more of that and I'm pretty pissed with Netflix that the only epic they produced is Kingdom which I adore (the only sageuk I can stomach because it's a unique take on zombie genre) and while they co-produced Arthdal it's really up to Koreans to decide Seaosn 2 fate. I wished Netflix made their original epic fantasy program with all K cast. Instead, they waste time and money on Navillera and Love Alarm. :(

yes Mr Queen wasn't a traditional sageuk. It had a great hook. Also, no offense to anyone but I can't with sageuk fashion. Buff men should show skin. Instead they wear parasol hats and ballet shoes.

Really? I m yet to watch it .
I didn't like it tbh. IMO, it had material for 2 hr long movie but 12 episodes was way too much for such rather ridiculous premise. I also don't get the point of casting actors without any ballet experience which led to really badly edited scenes trying to hide that a double did the dance. So-called "headless" scenes. Really ugly.

ha ha yes. and then of course we have sageuk with its own set of tropes: evil doweger, concumbine's son, dispossessed prince, princess in drag, endless roundtable conspiracies, etc

P.S. hate chaebol dramas and sageuk.

arthdal chronicles was so interesting! original AF, unlike the other kdramas. and they pulled it off. great acting,…
No news. And cast is doing other projects. SKJ has just signed up for a new chaelbol drama. If there's ever season 2, I don't see it before 2022. Also see Rogina's post: In their previous work, writers went on a long hiatus, 4 years.
Tbh, I think that the main hurdle to Season 2 is that the drama wasn't popular in Korea. And therefore why the stars would want to commit to it if Season 2 wouldn't be more popular? After all, their careers are Korea bound, they aren't working in Hollywood. So no matter what we internationals think, Korean market is their #1.

My hopes for Season 2 (no spoilers):

Netflix original meaning drop the whole season for binge watch

Shorter season. Definitely less than 18 episodes. While I appreciate character focus, some of slower episodes repeated the same talking points too much so I felt that the season didn't have to be that long.

lol did not expected to read a review here.I like LOTR so I want to watch it but I heard story is not finished…
Oy! though I must admit I have a ambivalent relationship with this drama. As a fan of villanous and anti-heroic characters, I know that they are basically doomed in the future cause that's how most good vs evil stories end. So while I want to see more, I won't be too upset without S2, etc cause, right now, all my favorites are canonically alive so I cna pretend that they would stay so in the future, if there's no continuation. :)

Might be but it isn't certain when. They announced another season but no movement yet and at least one key cast member is scheduled to film something else. IMO, nothing before 2022.
