He’s really not a good actor and I didn’t realize he was so popular, but as someone who watched Nevertheless…
Agreed. run from dramas good actors, branch out in movies. not all movies are good but they still require a different kind of acting. daytime soap/telenovela melodramatics and wooden acting that makes trees in the park look like Brando are what dramas thrive on.

Brilliant review! You should post it (including addendum about romance).Yes, this was a terrible mess and I dropped…
everyone but annoying FL out-acted SJK in Vincenzo but that's because his character was total Mary Sue. OP characters have no dramatic tension about themselves cause they always come out on top and are experts for everything, everyone loves them, etc.

Yes, Na Im Woo being handed the lead in River was ridiculous. He wasn't popular on MrQueen and then SML and SFL on River became more popular than the leads. They called them Hot&Hot.

ha ha bug is the word. SK's bug look worked in Sweet Home because he played a character who was occasionally turning into a monster. So that was perfect. Not so when playing ordinary people.

Rowoon looks like an ox and is about as good an actor. Always that perpetually surprised face with flared nostrils, just like an ox. He's also a viewership poison in Korea. They love sageuk over there yet his sageuk is currently nose-diving in ratings and Netflix global viewership isn't impressive either.

Off your list, I've seen Woo Do Hwan in KTEM where he was great in a dual role though that drama was unwatchable, just messy writing, but that didn't affect his performance. It's tougher to be good when writing is bad and he was excellent.

Lee Do Hyun is amazing, ran circles around SK in Sweet Home.

Lee Jae Wook blew Rowoon off the screen in Extraordinary You. I couldn't finish that drama but there were, like, 3 more guys (the blond one and 2 more) and they all blew Rowoon off the screen.

I'll add Kwak Dong Yeon as another amazing actor born after 1990. he was the MVP of Vincenzo.

I'll add Na In Woo as on dull as a dishwasher list. Holy cow he was so boring in River Where the Moon Rises. I didn't watch that drama in full, just wanted to see how the replacement went cause everyone was talking about the original actor's firing due to sextape charges. They should have just cast a tree trunk and everyone would think it was Na Im Woo. I honestly think that support for him was astroturfed. He was a terrible replacement.

Haven't seen the rest but I looked for them in MDL search and I see that 2 of them were with AHS on Dr Romantic 2. Must have acted rings around that plank of wood.

she's completely one-note in My Name. That's not acting. I'm sorry but wooden/expressionless =/= badass. Also,…
pointing out ridiculous action waif trope is not skinny shaming. It's simply a wrong body type for the kind of opponents she and similar characters are given. if she was fighting against equally poorly trained feather-weight twink a la Timothee Chalamet than I could suspend the disbelief. or if there was a super strong explanation why she was so OP which there wasn't. She was barely trained. Pretty much Rey Fakewalker redux.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a waif too but she had the whole "in every generation one is born" justification plus Giles as her mentor with an arsenal of monster-defeating weapons, charms, etc. Harry Potter won a number of duels with Voldemort because his mom's love/sacrifice created the protection against Avada Kedavra, because brother wands couldn't work against each other, because Voldemort had no Horcrux left to protect him, etc. All well explained why a noob like Potter kept defeating Voldemort since he was a baby. Etc. Fiction, TV, movies are full of well explained well developed examples of underdogs rising above immeasurable odds. My Name is not one of them. It's in the category of poorly explained ones aka Mary Sue and Gary Stu corner.

I definitely agree. I would choose quality over quantity any day. He's got a nice face, but he has the same facial…
Agreed. I think that Love Alarm and Navillera had decent concepts...for movies. That they were stretched into series worked against them because they couldn't fill the running time with relevant content. But if each was a movie I think they would have worked much better.

AHS is terrible because, as you say, his acting is completely monotone. And tbh I've seen prettier actors so even visuals shouldn't be a reason to shovel him down everyone's throat.

Drama actors tend to be mediocre to terrible but psssst we can't say that cause Muh Visuals. Actors who are actually good such as Yoo Ah In have movie career too. Basically, drama acting is what daytime soap opera acting in America. Most stay on daytime soaps forever cause they aren't for anything better. Rare few move onto things that require better acting cause they can meet the standard.

speaking of butthurt, some girl who is an editor or mod or whatever on MLD news page got really butthurt when I said in Song Kang editorial that, while he was bad, he was still better than AHS who was the worst actor I've ever seem. Popsiclequeen or similar name. She was fuming lol.

on the contrary, I speak like someone who can see how ridiculous fight choreography was in order to make her look like a winner. Only someone who doesn't have any fighting basic would think it was good. It was silly even by most choreographed fights standards.

Oh for sure. I wanted to shake everyone who approved that and yell "How dare you?" and "Shame on you!"

I've seen:

Kingdom. Terrific Season 1 and 2 but pretend that Ashin of the North special episode didn't happen - it was a dumpster fire. No word on Season 3 only about another special episode this time focused on Prince Lee Chang.

Sweet Home - terrific Season 1 but they announced that Season 2 will only have 2 characters return, that I didn't particularly care about. LDH, Song Kang, Lee Jin Wook, Go Min Si, Kim Sang-ho, Kim Nam-hee, and King Seong Cheol's guest appearance made the drama for me.

Joseon Exorcist - as a fan of Kingdom, I really liked 2 episodes that were first and, sadly, last. While it had similar setting (Joseon horror) outside of lamp hates and white socks, the premise was different. We know what happened next. :(

Dark Hole - seen 1 and 1/2 episode. It was terrible. They threw every horror subgenre in it. Serial killer. Monster. Zombies. Possession. Aliens. Disease. Just ugh. Could have been good if they focused on one thing.

Great selection and thank you for sharing in this well written article ❤️I've watched 13 out of the 17 listed…
ikr? I really liked those 2 episodes that aired. Shame they cancelled it. I wished Netflix picked it up since they hit the homerun with Kingdom. But maybe they would think it too similar.

same to you. It's your right to like who you like. You have positive experience with this actor while I have extremely negative one. This was the first time that I was traumatized by someone's bad acting. Perhaps because he played a blind person in such ridiculous, borderline parody way, that I was just shocked that such misfire to portray disability was allowed in supposedly serious drama. It was insulting.

I read on Koalasplayground that he was nothing special in Dr Romantic and didn't justify becoming the lead and that he has no chemsitry with anyone. So there's a lot of negative opinion of his acting and lack of charisma and chemistry. he really is so terrible in LotS that I have no desire to ever check out anything with him. Definitely blacklisted.

I respect your opinion and by all means continue to enjoy him.
