I don't think that's how it works. Wouldn't both of the twins be reincarnations of the same person? Especially…
the bus driver went after ML's soul. So the twins split old Bulgasal into the twin who was a monster (the one that remembers) and the twin that has Hwal's soul (the one that lived). Short version: the twin that lived did not kill Hwal's wife and won in the past.
Ugh why they killed the real bulgasal and leave the younger sister instead, I was hoping the older sister will…
it's a copout. Younger sister is an innocent version of the Bulgasal who killed Hwal's family. Basically, while she still has his soul, she isn't the old Bulgasal. Imagine if Bulgasal was split in soul (that wasn't her to begin with) and Bulgasal. So that's what happened. This is necessary cause they want Hwal and "old Bulgasal" to fall in love but that wouldn't work if he hated her. So he won't hate the innocent one.
I liked it much better when it was Hwal chasing after the real Bulgasal. This is just dumb.
I don't think Hwal was the one that killed her, I think that was misdirection. It was probably Lee Joon's character
I didn't like the twist with twins at all and I cna tell you 100% that Hwal didn't kill anyone because they kept the killer's face obscured, he wouldn't kill the mother or anyone innocent and we know from Dukshini's reincarnation in Joseon that another young man was looking for female ex-Bulgasal.
All in all, a massive copout to make romance possible. The twin who doesn't remember is technically innocent of killing Hwal's family since her twin who did treated her as a separate entity and even said that she wasn't really the daughter/sister. And that Hwal didn't kill her sister and mother also helps their case.
off topic: that blond hair from Extra You isdrama defining. I would never recognize a scene from that drama by lets say its star Rowoon cause he doesn't pop but that terrible straw thing is freakin iconic.
This is a fantastic idea so I give y'all a warning: Inner Anger Will Be Unleashed! And YOU may be the reason for it!
ABANDON SHIP!
Shipper ruin everything. Scientifically proven fact. If you are a shipper that ruined a drama, well, sucks to be you! And sucks even more to be me and everyone who thought a drama would go somewhere worthwhile but your shipping enforced inanity and drivel.
Lovers of the Red Sky, Tale of the Nine Tailed, River Where the Moon Rises are some dramas absolutely ruined by shippers demand for the forced happy ending for the OTP that absolutely did not fit the tone of the drama and what came before. Now, to be fair, these dramas had tons of other problems but terrible sugary endings, that most likely gave their shippers a secret diabetes, did not improve but made the whole thing worse for wear. All 3 featured massive copouts created to force HEA (someone who should have stayed blind miraculously didn't, someone who should have stayed dead, miraculously didn't and in one case that happened at the expense of the most popular and beloved character). So if someone turns into a fire-breathing dragon that scorches drama forums with their cattiness and salt, keep in mind they are 100% right.
'TIS THE SEASON TO BE FOLLY FA LA LA LA LA OH NO NO NO
There's a new drama. It's awesome! It also has a cliffhanger ending that's promising more story. You are hooked. But there's a catch: new season is not coming. Year passes, than two. No news on the new season. The cast is busy lining up new dramas thus being unavailable to shoot the season that doesn't even have a script in the sales pitch phase. Arthdal Chronicals, Kingdom, Alice In Borderland, just to name a few that really need a resolution. It's beyond frustrating.
Then you may hear some news...which isn't what you want to hear. That Kingdom is shooting "special episode" prequel movies nobody asked for. That half of Sweet Home cast (that happen to be the most popular ones) aren't returning. It's even more annoying.
And finally, you may hear that a drama that wrapped up without need for more, whose fans weren't clamoring for continuation, is getting not 1 but 2 more seasons (coughTOTNTcough). Now that's infuriating and you are allowed to unleash hell on comments boards.
TONY STARK WANTS TO PUNCH YOU IN YOUR PERFECT FAKE TEETH...WITH AN IRON GLOVE
Translation: hateful ML or FL or both. Sometimes drama is interesting in general and/or has great supporting cast, but ML or FL or both ruin it for you. It may be bad acting (eg. Lovers of the Red Sky ML is the worst actor I've seen in my life and I've seen Tommy Wiseau), or actors and/or characters general lack of likability ( TOTNT's Jo Boa and LWD are such obnoxious smug deadweight playing the most selfish self-absorbed characters ever) or just boring character/performance (Vincenzo, the dullest Gary Stu on Earth) or character/performance that is tolerable in small doses but becomes irritating for 16 episodes (True Beauty FL). When the worst character/actor in a drama, especially passable one, is FL and/or ML, that's like a torn in one's side. You want to skip their scenes but can't cause there are too many of them and they are the drama. So best way is to drop the drama or otherwise it's masochism without leather and other sexy Red Room gadgets.
TRAINWRECK TO BUSAN
You know this situation very well. It started awesome. For the first 4-5 episodes because they were pre-taped so audience couldn't interfere. And then the drama went off rails and what you ended up with wasn't what you thought you were getting at the start.
This is a larger problem that includes shippers from my first inner anger entry. K dramas that air on weekly basis in Korea, are filmed weekly from ep 5-6 onward, and audience reactions (likes, dislikes) dictate the direction of the drama. In this final section of my drama roast, I will explore Uncanny Counter since it's a perfect example of the drama trainwreck. This drama started as a supernatural action drama but then devolved into political diatribe on corruption because that's a big topic and concern in the country and thus audience related to it more. Well, as an international, I couldn't give 2 figs. That it was boring goes without saying. But that they swapped a superhot badass villain for an old ugly mayor is unforgivable. And no, this is not just a visual thing. The hot villain did a great acting job both as a deranged killer and a surprisingly sympathetic one when some secrets from his background were revealed. OTOH, the old ugly one just sneered, really lazy performance. Moreover, the focus also shifted from the teenage newbie struggling with his newfound powers to a middle aged cop since he investigated the corrupt mayor. Yawny Counter more than uncanny. It's supposedly getting season 2 (sometime in the unspecified future) but I won't stick around. This train crashed without chance of repair.
Gunslinger should be manly. Siwan could play a hooker (saloon girl) with the heart of gold with that pretty feminine face of his.
Speaking of, hooker with the heart of gold type of character was one of the most memorable in one of the most famous westerns The Stage Coach. So maybe cast her too but please none of the Ice Queens (Krystal, etc). Should be someone with warmth if there's such actress in Korea.
Korean revenge drama = hard pass. I love LDH but after terrible Ashin of the North and My Name, Korean revenge dramas are blacklisted in my book, so even he can't get my interest in this. Just awful drivel with unlikable, perpetually morose, expressionless main characters good only for curing insomnia. Once bitten, shame on you, twice bitten shame on me, third time biting won't happen.
romance was garbage, typical " the avenger is tempted to stop her revenge by a promise of a normal life only to…
Exactly. Angry FL needs to be angrier. Cue killing her one-night stand. If he was an actual boyfriend than the ending would be a time jump with FL and her son who is named after his dad to drive the point that he's the boyfriend's kid. That's another trope when they want to have a cake (kill a male character) and eat it too (but that's too cruel so at least there's a son to carry on for him). If Netflix knew how much shippers got attached to the one night stand visual, they would have added the son trope for sure.
romance was garbage, typical " the avenger is tempted to stop her revenge by a promise of a normal life only to…
it seems to me that fans of the actress (she was recently on that romance crap Nevertheless) are acting like she was the second coming of Vivien Leigh in Streetcar Named Desire or something and therefore the drama was automatically the best thing ever. Also, number of posts going "nooo, why did they kill [that canon fodder policeman boyfriend]?" tells you all you need to know about their viewing priorities. They watch for shipping. So as long as there's romance, it's thumbs up.
When I saw the trailer, I immediately knew it's actually the boss who killed the father (such an average trope…
romance was garbage, typical " the avenger is tempted to stop her revenge by a promise of a normal life only to get thrown back into revenge mode when that promise is taken from her by the same people she swore to kill" revenge movie cliche. I laugh that shippers really thought there would be HEA LMAO! That's what happens when romance drama fans are suckered into watching a revenge drama. They think there would be a froced HEA too. Well no, ha ha, joke's on them.
I actually really hate the drama but your article was really interesting to read even though we have different…
me too. I didn't like anything about it. It was atotal revenge cliche where everything was predictable like a clock:
you could guess that Big Boss was the killer 15 min into the first episode
FL is a Mary Sue who beats up better trained men twice her size, always gets help or whatever she wants because people unexplicably want to help her/like her even though she's a sour, one-note one-facial bore (someone mistook no facial expression for strength of character lol)
you could guess the twist with the dad from the get-go too, that he was going to be an undercover aka good guy (whu else would the boss kill him?)
you could guess that Mary Sue's late in the story boyfriend was going to bite the dust cause he was coming close to sway her not to continue with her revenge and that would defy the point of the story
you could guess that FL would fire and slash her way through 50 Mafia goons and kill the boss without suffering more than a "ain't I a badass?" cut and bruise here and there and get away with it cause these movies never show the aftermath where the police would have enough evidence of various kind to put her on a death row. They always end the same way - the avenger goes to the most likely place for the police to ambush her, cemetary, but of course no one is gonna ambush her cause it's a revenge fantasy. So she naturally put on the shades indicating she is free to roam around without being recognized. LOL.
This crap rode Squid games coattails but never came close to squid game success. No #1 spots, already out of Top 10 (squid is still on it everywhere in the world). Just generic crap. The actress is boring af too. Expressionless =/= strong character
BTW, I utterly dispise her dad who deserved to get killed for letting his daughter get bullied because kids thought she was a gangsta's kid. Worst dad ever.
After one-two punch of terrible revenge drama/movie made in K (this, Ashin of the North), I'll actively avoid anything that has a Korean female avenger. Not worth wasting my time on.
I really enjoyed this!!! But the way Pil-Do died was way too tragic....Moo-Jin being the bad guy was clear from…
not it wasn't tragic. FL didn't deserve happiness and, IMO, it was ridiculous that they teased that shipper nonsense. His character was dumb. Why would he fall in love with someone who had no perosnality or interest in anything but revenge, and was going to get him killed cause his interest in her put a target on his back? he got what he deserved. I dropped this drama after Ep 3 and couldn't get it out of the queue so I watched the last episode to remove it naturally (the system thinks you finished it). I was yelling YES! YEEESSSSS! like Thor in Ragnarok when ML got the bullet in his head. That's all FL doing. No happiness for you one-note sour dullard.
I guess Korean market devours them (patriotism?) but they are doing poorly on Netflix. I don't bother with them…
I tried to watch Mr Sunshine but FL was total Mary Sue -freakin everyone was in love with her and she was laughable as a masked vigilante, the plot was ridiculous, bromance was great but that was on the backburner cause love quadrangle (FL + 3 suitors who had better options than FL yet ignored them) took up most of the running time. I give it that fashion was different at least characters who dressed like turn of the century.
Ah yes, non-Joseon historical dramas have long-hair with bangs lol. that's how you know it isn't Joseon.
