Can't believe I found a gem of a drama through YouTube recommendations lol.
Relationship timeline: Ep2. first kiss Ep.2 (ten seconds later) first sex (yes I was just as surprised) Ep.4 basically dating officially Ep.40 proposal No break-up inbetween, though a couple of fights, screaming matches and some ignoring (but definitely no break-up, despite all the hurdles)
Now for drama itself: this could've been an easy 9, or at least 8.5, but alas.
The good: 1) one of the best chemistries between the leads. They have hot scenes (bathroom, rain, if you watch you'll know), but it's the amount of casual contact that distinguishes this drama from other cdramas. When together, the leads are hugging, pinching each other, leaning on each other, joke with each other, play fight - something extremely rare for this genre. The only other one I can think of is YAMH. 2) FL is amazing, period
The bad: 1) terrible subs. And I mean terrible. Probably worse than stand or fall before Viki release. Because of this, I basically skipped all the legal stuff - which is a great portion of the drama. 2) annoying ex. Sure, FL slapped him twice, but the guy was extreeeemely annoying.
holy shit, I didn't expect it to be as good as it is. Don't tell me we finally have a NORMAL and somewhat realistic family drama with a married couple?
The leads are amazing (granted, I'm a sucker for mature relationships), the second couple is amazing, conversations flow smoothly (subs are good as well). Even the 'evil mother' is not as evil/overbearing as cdramas mothers usually are.
Thankfully, a romance drama without exaggerated comedic acting. Been real tired of them ever since Dr Slump. So glad we got something where actors are allowed to be natural lol
Will Love in Spring ~~ No official breakup, but a couple of big fights, which got resolved very quickly.
Disagree about this one.
FL schemes to get engaged to ML to make sure he agrees to LDR -> doesn't tell him she's leaving before literally getting on the train -> ML tells her to give back the ring, refuses LDR -> 5/6 months time skip where FL is groveling to get him back.
Sure, they never use the word break-up, but I think half a year of ignoring/icing out counts as a separation.
That said, before the last ~2 episodes the drama was excellent.
Has anyone seen "Step by Step Love"? Is there any break-up?
I think so, in the later episodes. It's also a... bad drama all around. Like, really bad (second leads that can't take a hint and do everything in their power to destroy the relationship between the leads, including a childhood 'friend' that turns into an angry manchild when FL starts dating ML, miscommunications, villains that get forgiven, ML prioritizing his sister over FL, constant schemes and so on). The only redeeming qualities of this drama are the chemistry between the leads and one of the hottest kiss scenes in cdrama lol
I THOUGHT EVERYONE WAS TALKING ABOUT THE LIFT KISS... BUT THEN THE OFFICE SCENE COMES OUT I GASPED SO HARD I CHOKED
+1 lmao. Their first kiss, I was like ehh, dead fishes again. Their second kiss, a little better. Their elevator kiss, hey not bad. And then in the office, I was like what the fuck just happened :D
I heard there is no breakup in "Like Flowers in Sand." The leads got together in episode 8.
They don't get together in ep8. Drunk ML kisses FL and they spent the rest of the episodes running away from each other LOL. I don't think they officially get together until the last ep, though may be wrong about that.
They get together at the start of ep8, break up by the end of ep8. Breakup was not due to misunderstandings - rather, FL felt she was too mentally unstable to be in a relationship (which is a valid reason, but imo the way it was portrayed was... lackluster). EP 9 is all about them being miserable apart (I think...? I skipped through most of it), in ep10 they get back together again. No breakup from that moment on.
I didn't really like their chemistry though. It's way too exaggerated and comedic, which can be entertaining at first but quickly becomes boring and corny. Second couple suffers from the same problem.
I basically finished the drama because I have nothing to watch and for FL's family LOL
Has anyone watched Pegasus? It's not exactly a 'romance' drama, but should have romance as a subplot. I'm curious when do the leads get together/is there a breakup afterwards?
I have dropped watching this drama initially, but since i liked serious dramas and also both the main leads thought…
Fake It Till You Make It is an absolute must-watch. Honestly, this series does not feel like a cdrama in the slightest.
BELOW ARE SPOILERS (LIGHT), BOTH FOR FITYMIT AND OTHER DRAMAS
We've got an a handsome/rich/charismatic ML that, shockingly, flirts/dates other women before FL and not a 30yo+ virgin; Same with FL - and, you won't believe it, she doesn't blush after a kiss and actually seems to enjoy physical contact; There's also no 'we are a couple that lives together, but sleeping in the same bedroom???!!! Not until marriage!' -thing that cdramas love to do. They move in/sleep together in like 20 min of screentime after they start dating :D
Chemistry is sizzling, relationship is cute and dialogues are witty (subs are good too). Probably my favorite cdrama of all time (bonus points: its HEA and they don't ever break-up after getting together).
Apart from FITYMI, probably My Little Happiness? I've rewatched it recently and realized I've forgotten just how much skinship was there between the leads lol (I love the ML in this - I'm really tired of the cold/emotionless MLs that look constantly constipated, so he was a breath of fresh air)
Other recs: Nothing But You (great, can't wait for the FL's actress new drama) Rational Life (same FL as in Stand or Fall) Viva Femina (was good, but the later episodes are iffy for me) My Fated Boy (all four of these dramas are older woman/younger man - they tend to be more 'mature' lol) Once We Get Married / The Love You Give Me (same couple) Meet Yourself (one of my favs, a very calming drama) Road Home, I guess? My Sunshine Our Interpreter. There is some... questionable decision making in, I think, ep34-35 (dw its HEA, they don't even break-up), and the drama is stale before they get together, but I loved them as a couple) Love At Night You Are My Glory (absolute classic)
From what I remember, these dramas have romances that don't look like a pair of 14-yos dating for the first time. If you want more, you'd probably have to look at k-dramas. Lmk if you need recs from there too, I'll try and remember some lol
Am I the only one who enjoyed the first part of the show (before they came back to China) much more? Was a literal 10/10 for me, but the 'we need to keep this a secret, parents disapprove' trope ruined the vibe for me
What costume dramas have you already seen and which ones did you like?
Dream of Splendor and Fall in Love (about a republican warlord and a businesswoman), both of which I liked before the 'my family killed your family' moment. Nothing else, only watched modern dramas before
Been trying to get into costume dramas, can you give me some recommendations? My only reqs are no breakup (separations for external reasons are fine), at least some episodes as a established couple (not confessing in the last episode lol) and no ridiculous 'We are madly in love, but it turns out your father killed my father, so I will ignore you now"-trope. I only tried 2 costume dramas (republican Fall In Love and Dream of Splendor) and both were utterly ruined for me because of it.
I've heard great things about Ming Lan, but also read that it takes the FL 60+ episodes to actually respond to ML's feelings instead of being just a dutiful wife. Don't think I'm ready for that level of a slow burn :D

Binged all 4 episodes, loving it so far.
Maybe someone who watched more recently than I did can be more helpful haha. It's a good drama though, without the usual c-drama cliches

I started the drama but wasn't really feeling it. Won't be finishing it then lol.
