a top tier drama to be honest, truly a 9/10 drama in its day but I feel its 8/10 today.
two things holds it back, first the mediocre execution, like the horrible the seizure inducing stroboscopic effect of the flashback scenes, the audio going deafening mode when someone screams, the out of sync awkward voice overs, the quick edits in some scene that makes you lose focus of the big picture etc
and the middle part which was out of sync from the rest, characters talking about secret things in plain view, people teleporting, characters taken out of the screen without a reason, etc. there are other things I didn't like story wise but I think those are personal.
Still a must watch, and its obvious that Park Hae Young really really really matured and made my liberation notes which I think its vastly superior on every scale compared to this.
for dramas from big corps like disney+ and netflix just watch somewhere else, don't feel bad about it even if you can afford the subscription their behaviour of adding and removing shows like they own them is disgusting, thankfully the drama enthusiast made websites even better in quality and user interface than these official corporate websites.
most tv series/movies are like long phrases, they use an already known language that's why you can pick and watch them easily. but there are some works that they are their own unique languages, that you have to concentrate, study and learn to fully understand. if you're willing to Of course. My liberation notes is one of them and one of absolute best to ever create its own language in my opnion.
I hate myself for having this masterpiece in my backlog for 18 Months.
the reason this is not rated 8.5+ is because sadly it lacks the absolutely unhinged psychopath in-laws, the white truck of doom, the out of nowhere kidnapping of the FL, the third straight accident that somehow leads to an amnesia and the over the top 120fps low motion scene every 10 seconds to show that they are indeed shooting the drama with top tier cameras.
I wasted my much valuable post covid time watching half of this, I didn't survive covid twice and getting my vaccines so I can live wasting my time on dramas like these.
sorry for not being 100% accurate, so I don't remember the episodes exactly.
from what I remember is that at some point she started feeling some vibes from him and she was like wtf but she had to be reserved because they were going through some rough period and her husband whom she never wavered for needs his friend the most, but after awhile she confronted him like a mother confronting her child, like she said no need to say anything or even think of anything I'm going to act like I never knew. like she put him in his place while being condenscending which was very rewarding to be honest because the whole crush was weird.
Its been a long time but I'm pretty sure I was referring to mei xing having the most unbelievable crush on shi yi. it was such a weird "love at first sight" he barely saw her from distance and he fell in love.
legit one of the funniest Kdramas, its near perfect for its genre, kept being funny until the last second (except the last conflict that lasted like 2 mins and was stupid and useless)
I was blown away by the directing, legit what elevated the whole drama and made it 10 times funnier. the cuts the out of focus, etc everything about it is so perfect, reminded me of edgar wright.
Absolutely recommend.
Also the one of the only two ML with anger issues done absolutely right alongside lee Jae in from seomthing about 1%
big old 2026 And this picture still haunts me, whoever changed it need to have a very long talk with him/herself. absolutely guts wrenching picture, everytime it enters my field of vision I lose appetite for 3 days and 8 hours.
i dropped it at episode 8, i got bored. should I give it anothet try???
for most people (like myself) fluffy dramas requires a certain mindset and a certain mood to watch. just like sweet food, you need a certain conditions to really enjoy it, unless you're one of those people who eat sweet food 24/7 even in a dystopian apocalyptic environment.
I think this drama is good, instead of characters clashing and problems, its characters fitting into each others almost perfectly, imagine you're building a puzzle but everytime you pick a piece you know where its going, it has a different experience than trying to solve the puzzle which gives you headache, both scenarios has their pros and cons depending on your mood
such a great cute little drama, doesn't punch over its weight intentionally, delivers the messages and arcs that it intends to, nothing spectacular presentation wise could've been better, but really charming drama.
the single worst thing to do in writing in my opinion is not having a weak story or bland characters. its the whitewash.
the whitewashing of the FL is absurd, people compares her to hong cha young from vincenzo but she's not even close, she spent more than half of the show being as equally disgusting and treacherous as the person who killed priest gabriel.
The whitewashing I'm talking about is the constant shift to banter and comedy when she and the ML talking about the case so we as viewers will like her because "haha funny banter she's FL you have to like her trust me she'll be good later" no if someone helped not kill but worse tarnish the image of the only family you have you won't feel the banter or be for some reason drunk and cute around.
it was disgusting to watch not because she's evil but I was disgusted by the writer trying to sell me something intentionally made to be very cheap.
he blames himself for his parent's death, his brother escaped and left him with horrible step siblings and sister in law, his grandfather consistently gives him the cold shoulder like if he was invisible, he's slave working in his family's company, his first love was married to another guy even though she looked like she liked him, and the woman he likes is getting married to his brother for an unkown reason.
It reflects the overall state MDL and its users to be honest, and its not going to change any time soon.

I mean you have the right to note anything you want, but for a forgettable, below expectation movie 8.5/10 is too much
no wonder the ratings are too skewed in kdrama
