I haven't watched it yet but from what you said it seems like they are trying to pander towards the elusive "Modern…
Yes, that's the drama's saving grace in my opinion, the time travel added with the fact he can only travel to happy moments was very interesting and to the drama's credit the concept was explored very very very well. its not about being unpredictable and having twists albeit it was, but the execution of it in my viewing experience was very well done.

In my opinion its not a matter of woke or modern audience, its one of those stories that were made to adhere to a certain category of female viewers, take it like those ecchi harem anime that are made for a very specific audience.
after episode 8 absolutely nothing make any sense or whatsoever.
very very very weak second half, Yeon ju became an irrelevant character who just follow whatever Kang chul tells her to, hell everything follows his plans again and again, even seong mu became literally a no one.
if you want some of the most irrelevant, weightless, always being pushed around, can't even talk for themselves unless asked and can't answer correctly even asked LEADS, then this drama is for you. The leads gets pushed around even by the most guest of characters, they can't do anything for themselves, they find themselves in situations others put them in.
also the overuse of bland and predictable push and pull every single time is tiring after you see it 2 or 3 times.
don't waste your time on it. if you liked how the story was setup, showing a lot of sides from a lot of characters and the culprit must be one of them I recommend watching My Perfect Stranger instead of this.
the men in this drama are just accessories, almost all of them are servants and the rest just goes whichever direction chosen by the female interacting with him.
reminds me of those old misogynistic dramas where every female is irrelevant and the men holds all the power.
except the FL, every single character doesn't act as human being but as a plot device that can be summed in like 3-4 words. its a really weak drama when it comes to characters.
The ML is just a blob, a non existent character who gets pushed in whatever direction the character's interacting with him.
Such an underrated gem, surprisingly I really loved the law/crime parts which is rare, the stories are original and well made to complement and compensate the characters, and thanks to the fantastical nature of the story the romance is unorthodox and fun apart from the useless love triangle ofc. the ML is a very good and complex character.
in modern day korea, just like the doctor needs a medical license to exist, just like a lawyer must be admitted to the bar to exist, a kdrama must have a love triangle to exist, what a horrible and unnecessary love triangle.
good and funny drama even if its made to be full of clichés yet still without the worst cliché of chaebol vs commoner and forced breakup, which is good
also like always in modern south korea its totally okay to physically and mentally abuse your grandson/son for decades and without repentance you'll be accepted if you say you're sorry hell even a sad_violin.mp3 will start playing in the background.
her friend is absolutely shameless human being, her whole role in the drama is to belittle and defame the ML, everytime the FL seeks her opinion she have a negative one. even later in the story. its absurd.
the end of episode 14 and the start of the episode 15 doesn't make any sense or whatsoever. I really enjoyed the first 14 episodes even with plot holes but this is totally on another level of absurdity

JUST DONT FORGET TO WATCH THE SEQUEL
