ZL and FTY proved to everyone how far they came starting from scratch with 1. family 2. wealth 3. social standing 4. career. it was mentioned in the epilogue, she gave him 3 more children, totaling 7 children. ZL have a side story on his family background. his father died when he was young, his mother a widow and bullied by the 6th uncle/branch of the family and other family members as well. the 6th uncle scam took everything from ZL's father (properties?) and mother died shortly after. ZL ran away from home at a young age and started wandering the streets trying to make something for themselves. when he came into power, he started to scheme to take back what was owed and put reshuffle the elders in charge of the family ancestry. the 6th uncle hung himself as a way to ask for forgiveness and hope ZL will let his son/family go. FTY's accusations (having a relationship and eloping with a man) was never cleared, but her character and societal contributions shine brighter than the scandals. She was appointed as a noble woman of the first rank eventually. her dad never acknowledge her and presume she dead. she could care less and not as tangled in the whole father daughter connection in the novel. her mother died of illness when she was completing her post partum/babymoon 'zuo yue'.
they both wanted to start their own family ancestry on their own terms, free of the family shackles they came from.
i like the novel version of ZL and FTY more. they are more dedicated and united building and protecting their family. FTY never doubt ZL and ZL treats her like treasure and make sure she's always protected, even when he's away on orders of a mission.
the yu family's decline make more sense in the novel than this current drama unfolding.

i don't get why the drama have general mo and his brother from another mother yang died...they are very much alive and thriving in the novel. they have a strong bond/pact in the novel. drama should focus on getting rid of the villains.
