Didn’t she also fake her handwriting in the same scene? I feel like she purposefully was bad at it so he wouldn’t…
yeah, the novel ties the both of them with her first and second life. first life, there's a lot of thing she thought was what it was...but it turns out there was more than meet the eye. in the second life, she found out all the things XJ did for her, which makes her love him even more.

HY was grateful for XJ in her first life, but fell in love w/ him in her second life.

CZ lost out w/ time and one life behind XJ lol...

when it comes to courtship/love, HY is very oblivious lol. She doesn't even know CZ likes her, let alone XJ lol

her handwriting is decent, and she change certain strokes to not give her away she has a literate education.

she was raised as a 'man' all her life and don't cook or make things...so for her to make the sugar candy basket goes against logic. candy making like that requires training and skills - something she simply don't have. i guess the drama wants to make it that way to make it more memorable or meaningful to their interaction.

Actually that's all subjective matters. Personally, I found that many Cdramas keep staying great from beginning…
the ending was too disney theme haha. the family being there is not part of the novel. it was only her twin brother that was with her.
there was a lot that was cut off from the novel.
her tang sister and her husband are weaklings/scholars so them being there does not make sense. charging through the village riding a horse and killing the enemies? ummm...ok hahaha...
FL was pretty bad ass handling her own matters against Luo QiTong.

per novel, they didn't get married but both was committed to each other. they did made up and got back together.
FL was happy with her independence and ML is happy for her and do whatever she wants.

i was soooooo rooting for ML b/c he deserves love after all that he went through.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. And Ying Xiang does so much for him.Poor Ying Xiang
YingXiang was saved from being sold into a brothel by CZ when she was a young girl of 10-12. Her background reminded his upbringing at the brothel with his mother, which is why he saved her. CZ paid for her contract and took her in as a maid/servant and that's all there is to their relationship. She is super loyal and true to CZ. she is pretty much his caretaker and listen/do as told. she is not expressive in emotions b/c it's taboo for servant/master. her role is to serve, not fall in love or make CZ fall in love w/ her. you could say her love is unconditional when it comes to CZ.
She is beautiful and know she could charm her way with men to get what she wants. However, the only men immune to her is XJ and CZ. She was utterly frustrated when she tried to seduce/flirt with HY (training camp ground) and was met with failure.
YX is not a fighter, bodyguard or skill in swords/martial art in the novel.

YX was given away to the Crown Prince as his bed servant. CZ didn't wanted to, but he was set up by his dad's wife to give her away. YingXiang went willingly and became a spy for CZ.

When Crown Prince found out, he basically tortured her, disfigure her beauty, broken her spirit. By the time the tides has turn and CZ was able to rescue YX, she was reduced to an 'ugly' person (scar stretching diagonally across her face and was laced with medicine to leave a permanent scar). i forgot if she killed herself or aske CZ to kill her off b/c she can't live with an ugly face like that.

it was only after seeing YX like that CZ was regretful. CZ realized too late of YX's effect on him.

She can’t even paint a bird, but she can make a flower basket out of syrup? The drama writers really didn’t…
the drama is so inconsistent lol

embroidery is a sketch that is more realistic/artsy. Only the super educated could do these sketches. so embroidery matches brush paintings. it makes sense that HY's horse looks like a kindergarten sketch haha.

Didn’t she also fake her handwriting in the same scene? I feel like she purposefully was bad at it so he wouldn’t…
novel:
XJ doesn't wear his emotions on his face/expressive...which is why HY is not confident or even have the slightest idea that XJ likes her.

XJ likes HY but doesn't fight or force it. He originally thought HY likes CZ and if that's the case, he will not force it. Their presence bothers him but he doesn't show it. His wingman, Lin XuangHe (drama combo with Cheng LiSu) is the one who kept pushing him to make a move or risk losing out on her. Once he realized he's the moon HY was referring to, he was more proactive...went straight to requesting for marriage lol.

that's so adorable! Since the scene regarding the 2nd lead complaining about the generals marrying causing a power…
political marriages usually break the balance and causes shift/changes in the court.
besides merits, political marriages is the next advantage to help secure/protect/strengthen a political post/title.
novel:
XJ marrying any daughter from the court departments (e.g. censor, treasury, military etc) will strengthen XJ's influence and power at court. XJ have the Xiao Army as a power play, his title as the Commander/General.

Chancellor Xu is worried XJ's marriage alliance will harm/weaken his power in court. Chancellor Xu supports the Crown Prince (poor character, villain, lack of virtue, only given the title b/c he's the king's first born with the queen). Chancellor Xu is Team Crown Prince. Chancellor Xu hand picked Chu Zhao as his successor/daughter's fiance, making Chu Zhao Team Crown Prince. CX is also the main reason the current king was able to inherit the thone, so he's already pretty powerful in that case.

So when XJ wants to marry HY, he was all for it b/c HY come from a family with no political background or power. At the royal feast, the king elevated HY's title to Marquis (the first female Marquis in the dynasty history). Even so, HY's role doesn't have too much influence or power in court yet. This happens before HY was exposed as a woman.

XJ to HY post royal court feast/celebration and HY's female identity exposure

XJ to the king and court about HY
This should be coming up soon in the drama...and I hope it will be deliver just like the novel!

Celebration feast with king and court officials (usually bring families to these events)/HY identity exposure:

XJ announced HY is his fiancee.
Other single ladies at court who are salty was like: how? why? when???...i don't believe it!!!

XJ:
“她的确不是我的未婚妻。”
(她) “是我眼中景,心中事,意中人。”

She is not (just) my fiancee...
(she) is the vision/view in my eye, matters of my heart, my one true love/sweetheart.

- this left everyone gasp with their mouths open b/c they were surprised XJ, with his cold demeanor would say this out and loud.

post feast in the carriage leaving for HY's residence:

XJ: do you like the moon?“
“喜欢月亮吗?”
HY: ....yes (mandarin xihuan 'like')
“……喜欢。”
XY: now...the moon now belongs to you.
“现在,月亮是你的了。”

XJ have a pretty romantic side :)

If those noble ladies, who could only do sewing or cooking or arranging flowers (because they were taught that…
the ladies shown in that audience are all noble/wealthy women. at most, they are required to learn to sew as an art form to display their talents and poetry/education level. it's not some contribution to help her family or her husband's family. they have maids to sew and do all that. they don't ever go into the kitchen or even know how to cook. at most, they may supervise the maids and servants on how it's done but never do it themselves or step in the kitchen.

that's the reality of society at the time for elite women. even in war times, they are kept inside safe quarters. it's the poor/lower class women who is out there slaving away to cook/feed/nurse the sick, old. and injured during wartime.

100% agree, all the actors have done a great job with the action scenes, love ZY and CL in this show!
actors definitely not the issue. if anything, it's the screenwriter and how they adapt the novel to drama w/ the resources they have. even so, the drama is enjoyable up to this point so far.

Guys rather than looking for logic in every point please appreciate the fight scenes...that too fighting with…
with the limitation, the fight scenes are not that bad. it's not exactly like the novel but is relaying the same theme/plot to fit the narrative.

Is it true that she was pregnant before she died ??? Who was the father of her child ??
you may have mistaken the Double plot for HY. First life: HY was not pregnant at the time of her death. her husband barely spends time w/ her. their union is more of a convenience of advantage for both family. even though the husband doesn't care for her, he doesn't mistreat her. but due to that, servants started to treat her less kind or gave her any importance/respect or think of her as the legit lady of the manor. HY is pretty much invisible to them.

husband only request for her hand in marriage b/c he overhead that HY is the real general. he was able to foster a deal with the He family in exchange the He family will help with his career advances. so when HY died, the He family married off HY's younger sister to keep both families 'connected'.
husband is aware of what the He family wanted to do but his thought process was 'i didn't want to kill her. the order didn't came from me. i have nothing to do with her death. if you want to go after someone, go after the He family'. that's his denial to avoid any link/responsibility/contribution to HY's murder. he's just a bystander in all this.

Second life: HY reborn into another girl (with the exact same name) who is about 2-3 years younger than HY/XJ. When she married XJ, she's still a virgin with the memories of being married experience from her first life, which is why she doesn't think she is pure enough to be with XJ.
XJ and HY married and they have a daughter. they returned to JiYang (7 years from their last visit) with a 3-4 year old Xiao Yao (sounds like carefree, HY name the daughter).
