Edit: My mistake then. Thank you for clarifying. šHer cousin. As far as I understood, she lost her parents…
So back in the days, the guys family lives together under one manor. If thereās more than one son and each of them is married, they are refer to ābranchesā ęæ (house/room)And by their birth order. All the kids are numbered by birth order regardless which son they are born to. The daughters are excluded bc they are married out of the family. Back then, girls get marry around the age of 14-16. They hardly stay home past that age. Once married out, they are not considers as part of the family as they are married into their husbands family.

Gege is more like a form of respect for a guy older than you. Itās confusing bc itās the same reference as gege (brother). For Hidden Love, their age difference is 5 years and ML being the peer of FLās brother, itās respectful to address him as ge (jiashu ge). FL also call her brotherās other friend as Chen fei ge. Itās like Korean culture, where you address older guys as oppa and older girls as unni.
I noticed in some drama in much more older time period, the family members addressed the kids by name and added with a geāer or jieāer (like to differentiate gender) for the kids.
Biological brother. But because the uncle didn't have an heir only the daughter he adopted Qiao Ci so he can pass…
He didnāt adopted Ci. He just see him as the heir bc he is the only Qiao male. If itās adopted, they have to note it in the lineage book etc. and if adoption, he canāt call his real father father anymore. Throughout the novel and drama, ci always called him big uncle (da Boi).

Yeah Asian culture have a name for each relationā¦itās complicated but by their title, you differentiate a clear lineage by the man or woman side. I find this interesting and more spot on than western culture with the cousin, first second or twice remove for all parties.

For tang, they see each other as siblings with the same bloodline/family name so a lot of times they drop the tang and just address as big/small sister/brother. In western culture, itās all cousins regardless of sides.

Incorrect. Manman and Ci are biological siblings. They lost their mother at a young age. Thru dad never remarried. Lady Ding (da qiaoās mom) takes care of them like her own children. Da Qiao is the oldest child from their fatherās brother. They refer to each other as big/small sister/brother regardless of parents bc they are related by the dadās side of the family.
For Asian culture, the dadās side of the family are ātangā (due to the same last name. Biao (cousin) for the motherās side due to the different last name.
FYI...the novel has a lot of S E X and description of their marriage life. it's actually quite funny reading about it b/c they experience up and downs in the bedroom like any normal couple. 1. when ML was drugged by his mother and cousin --- he was able to control himself and went back to FL's courtyard/chambers. however the drug was super strong that he quickly succumb to it. FL was so scared of him/his roughness that she fought him off. She even offered to bring in servants/ladies to help him relieve himself. ML does not want the attention by doing that and also his pride does not want any women to help him. in the end, he pleaded with FL to help him by giving him a handjob to get him off. she was like 'can't you do it yourself???' ML responded with '...i'm too weak, i can't feel my arms, you will have to help me. if you do this, i promise i won't do anything else to you...' FL was like my poor poor innocent pair of hands are dirtied by this act.
2. FL asked ML to step in and help her hometown by reasoning. ML was giving advice from his advisor to offer resistance anyways, but after some thought of the pros and cons, ML decided to lead his troops and help FL's hometown. By doing so, the night before ML leaves for battle, FL offered herself to him. FL was embarassed being naked in front of him...but he was like admiring every inch of her body. This is their first time. He tried to be gentle and not hurt her too much going in. However, b/c it's his first time as well, he got off too quick and she sort of laugh at it. He was embarassed about it but (in his head) vow to "punish her". Due to time, ML had to get ready and leave for battle. Before this, there were incidents where they almost did it, but FL is too scared of pain/roughness that she accidentally kick ML in the face.
3. after ML came back, he was eager to see FL. ML follow through with what he would do to FL. FL this time reminded herself not to laugh or mock him if he does finish early. however, ML was super vigourous and wanted her more than once to the point she was begging for him to stop. he also want her to tell him he's strong/the best during it.
4. lots and lots of S E X in other chapters... all that was mentioned will not be in the drama haha...so i guess that's why they have to find some other filler to fill in the drama version.
ML fell for FL first. ML is obsessed with FL after the first time they did it. he is able to separate FL from the Qiao family. ML loved first, whereas FL is always on guard, being super cautious. When FL realized that ML will still take revenge on the Qiao family, she left him to go back to the Wei Manor (she was with him on one his battles). ML thought she left him for good and went back to the Qiao family. He struggled with his pride for a bit and then went after her (in the rain, somewhat romantic in a way). ML panic and realized that he can't let her go or lose her. ML Zhe Yao / ęč ° yielded and gave in. He told FL that as long as the Qiao family does not betray and stay out of his way, he will not kill them. He also want FL to love/adore him the same way he loves her, to bear his children....FL was touched that he would let go of his revenge and she agreed to him. (the short version of the chapter in the novel.)
the drama depicts more of a livelier version of the lead characters. however, in the novel, FL is nothing like the drama. FL's position as the wife is clear and follow rules of the time. she does not berate him in front of his subordinates or speak out like that. she does not overstep her boundaries and go over ML. FL is only able to think quick and adapt was because of the first life she had (that she thought was a bad dream/nightmare but quickly realize that it's not ). From what happen in the first life, she was able to be prepare and in the know to change things. ML is a very strong macho type of man that will not entertain FL like in the drama. ML pretty much have the last say on everything. The only way FL could do is, her part as a good wife and filial daugther in law and the lady of the Wei Manor. She understand that she need to pacify ML's thirst for revenge by hoping that he will yield to her and eventually not kill the Qiao Clan. The novel is more realistic compare to the drama version.
The drama had changes but follow the novel's details here and there.
