She sounds amazing, and having a scar would make sense with the fire... But I kind of prefer this version. She's…
She shines as a doctor, friend and confidant in the novel as well.

The good thing is you could binge watch it all 😃.

Watch the story of Ming lan and/or love like the galaxy. Those dramas followed pretty closely to the novel! It may be long but that is bc the screen writers adapt closely to the novel. Worth the time to watch!

If the drama follows the novel, there are a lot more important factors going on and moves the story forward. The wives’ presence is not a part of the story line. Their existence is strictly just the Hua family’s family tree. GYZ is actually more expressive and lively in the novel than how the drama is portraying him.

I was hoping this drama would not be ruined like the story of anle. Both drama is making the FL weak, lovesick, easily influenced (by surroundings)and dependent on the ML.

FYI, Shao Yao is more bad ass in the novel.
Due to the fire, her face was disfigured and she lost all memories of her childhood. She usually wears a silk face mask to cover her face as it scares/attracts onlookers. She is a skilled doctor/medicine/poison user and knows martial arts. She’s also a big foodie and loves Fudong’s cooking. She is not slow, anxious and delicate like the drama version. She uses a whip as a weapon. She work alongside GYX at the elite agent office. She holds her own ground and goes on missions with GYX as well.

No one at the elite office knows of their sister/brother relationship. The guards know that she is special bc she gets away with a lot of things from their commander. SY took a liking to HZ bc she treats her like a normal person and admired her independence and brains. She has no problem killing for HZ and offers to off people for her in the novel lol. She still have a girly side of her and only whines/shows it in front of HZ. She’s fiercely protective of the ones she loves, which is only GYX and HZ. GYX will assign SY to HZ when she takes trips outside the capital, acting out as her bodyguard. SY acknowledges HZ as her future sister in law and the only person that matches GYX.

Oh yeah, HZ also started to learn martial art to protect herself. After the hostage incident, she decided to learn ways to protect herself and also have her maids learn as well. HZ put her skills to good use fighting off the pier bullies (in one of her trips to acquire seafood). She only maims people since she can’t or don’t want to kill people. GYX gifted her a hair pin that is strong, sharp and delicate for her to use in case of emergency.

GYX grew up under the care of the king/uncle and is highly trusted/value. He carries out secret missions for the king.

I m on page 271 and the novel has yet to share GYZ’s story.

She's still a kid after all, there was a mid wife so I doubt they'd let her in
According to the time, a single maiden is not allowed in the delivery room…which is why a midwife is needed for labor delivery. There is no doctors as well and bc if the lack of, most labors/deliveries end up in death bc of no medical help was available or arrive in time.

are the events in this episode very different from the novel?
Some plots are the same (e.g. HZ’s aunt’s domestic abuse, the grandmother’s death aggravated by hua jing). The novel’s HZ is concise, decisive and cunning on how to handle and navigate the problems the family faces. The novel breaks everything down well, esp from the societal status of women at the time. The drama make all the wives play a part in the problem when in the novel, they can’t and don’t want to do much and be ok to stay within the walls of the manor.

Take example for the 2nd aunt’s situation.
Novel:
Bolin, under the instruction and guide from HZ, was the Hua family representative to go to the Yang residence to retrieve the aunt. Even though HZ is the family’s leader, the eldest son is the person to speak for the Hua family when it comes to societal interaction/representation. The aunt was living in a small room with no quality care or attention that should be given to her as being the eldest Yang son’s legal wife. The aunt’s dowry maids betrayed (the aunt’s original hua family maids that came with the aunt in marriage) seduced and became the husband’s mistress/concubines. Bolin have the dowry maids resold bc they are a contract slave/servant and the aunt have their contracts. Even though they are concubines through servitude, they don’t belong to the husband or the Yang family. The Yang family got a 5th level official position due to the Hua family’s political influence. The old master from the Yang family has the political position and he is the family’s patriarch leader. The aunt married the oldest legal son of the Yang family. Even though the old master is a fair person, he still turn a blind eye to his son’s beating/mistreatment of the wife. The old madame is bias to her own son and bullies the wife.

In the old time, a divorced maiden is shameful and brings disgraced to the family’s name and affects all the single ladies status in the household. The Yang offered a divorce (kicked out of the family and not able to take anything) and not the annulled marriage (resume single status and take her dowry with her)paper. The document must be written by the husband and given to the wife as proof of agreement.
(The drama has the wife write the document and left it with the husband. Doesn’t make sense since the husband could tear it up and not acknowledge it.). It was HZ that took illegal means to threaten and forced the husband to write an annulment. GYX and Shao Yao support whatever HZ want to do and also play a part in it. GYX’s guards beat the husband (payback for the aunt) but not leave marks and SY giving the husband poison if he does not write the document.

Ep 22 is so idiotic and makes HZ weak…and not able to do anything. The wives causing a ruckus at GYX’s office (an office even the local police station fears) when they are supposed to go to the local police station to file a complaint. There’s also night curfew (when the sun sets) that was conveniently ignored. Yang is a business person only and an empty manor with no one else. GYX acting and playing along with the wives plot——-all does not exist in the novel. Again, unnecessary screen time for the wives that are mere background characters in the novel. The wives didn’t even want to go into the labor room and prevented HZ from going in. The grandmother/old madame is still alive during the 4th aunt’s labor (the second aunt’s situation happens afterwards) and was disappointed at her daughter in laws for not taking initiative to help a near death 4th daughter in law) but leave it to an unmarried maiden to help. This was also one of the reason why old madame believes in HZ’s character and is at ease at her for taking full control of the hua family.

It seem like after ep. 22, the drama will drop in ratings for me.

Ok screenwriter gives too much screen time to all the wives. Ep 22 shows just how annoying and dumb they are. HZ handled the aunt and uncle separation flawlessly in the novel. Drama doesn’t make sense by giving them this screen time when it could focus on more important points from the novel.

Yup…they are the worst in the novel. Only the 4th mrs is decent, trusted and helpful when it comes yo handling…
Ep 22 shows how utterly useless those wives are and certainly don’t sense at all. I rather they be like the drama where they are confined in the manor.

didn't they have a tradition of feet binding, for the noble girls, so they were always carried , because chinese…
Foot binding is an opportunity for any young girls to marry out of her league. This is why mothers took the risk of foot binding. A lot of girls usually don’t survive this as they will get infection/sepsis from the procedure . Read snow flower and the secret fan by Lisa see. It’s a good novel about foot binding.

That will depend on the dynasty. It started in the…sui dynasty??? It was ban by the Qing dynasty but Han people still continue it, even when the Qing dynasty ended, some place still continue to practice until communist took over and ban it completely.

even tho it’s not that difficult to understand but i haven’t payed enough attention in the beginning so i…
hua family:
Senior Hua - Old Master
- head of the household
- husband, father, grandfather
Old Madame - legal wife
1. 1st Son [married Zhu lady]
A. hua zi (has 4 maids)
B. Hua bo lin
2. 1st Daughter (hua jing) - from old madame
2nd daughter (hua qian) with mistress (not mention)
3. 2nd Son [married qi lady]
A. Hua Bo li
4. 3rd son [married xia lady]
A. Hua Ling
B. Hua Bo Yu
C. hua Duo
With mistress qin (3rd madame’s dowry maid and bo Li’s bio mom):
Hua xian
5. 4th son [married Wu lady]
A. Unborn baby

2nd and 3rd son had other concubines/mistresses but they all fled when the family fell.

Everyone else is pretty much close maids from each branch of the family), servants, housekeeper (Mr. Zhong)etc.

A branch ( in mandarin: Fong. Etc yi Fong refers to HZ’s immediate family)represents the male son.
A branch could move out and establish his own manor depending on imperial edict or bestowment. When this happens, the family is officially independent.

In the old days, beside the senior (highest patriarch: father), one son from the family could hold a political position in court. The rest of the sons will have to do something else or continue studying. This is a way of balance to make sure no family has too much political power in court. The drama seems to have all the sons (besides the 4th) have some kind of position in court. It is normal for families to live under one roof with the exceptions of the daughters marrying out.

May I ask you, if the second lead Shen Qi will keep bugging the FL for one sided love and try to break main couple…
I think he comes in later 1/2 of the drama. He won’t be around until he made a name for himself and have a say in front of his family.

It basically depends on if you like this type of drama ...its like love like the galaxy and a dream of splendor…
Love like the galaxy is probably the only drama that I watched that follows closely to the novel. This drama is pretty on point with the drama so far (the main points of the plot twist).

Am I the only one annoyed with all the wives ??? Like they never moved a finger, they would be begging for food…
Yup…they are the worst in the novel. Only the 4th mrs is decent, trusted and helpful when it comes yo handling small family matters. HZ’s mom is just naive and impressionable but bc of that, she’s more of a burden. With tradition, the family’s manager responsibility should be to the eldest daughter in law, if not, the most capable. The drama gave all of them too much credit for being a decent human.
