It was such a pointless death. And we only get some backstory of her at her death…
yes. in the novel: ying xiang is CZ's personal/trusted maid. no one else at the Chu manor see him as a master since CZ's stepmother hates/mistreats him.
XPT had a part to send YX to the crown prince to serve as a bed servant. CP was told of YX being a beauty and asked CZ for her. CZ didn't say yes/no but YX volunteered to go and serve as the his spy. CP eventually found out and hates YX for her betrayal. CP disfigured her face and fed her poison where it causes her skin to rot away, dying a slow painful death. after CP's manor was raided, CZ went to find YX but found her 1/2 dead w/o will to live. she is most proud and confidence of her beauty but that was taken away. she asked CZ to kill her. CZ had no but kill her to end her misery.
CZ negotiate with the 4th prince for himself and YX only. as for the Chu family and XPT, he doesn't care...their fate were not mentioned in the novel...but base on how the political fight play out, the chu family most likely exile.

their bond actually goes back to when YX was a child of 10-12. YX was sold to the brothel by her dad. CZ happen to pass by and witness the scene and seeing YX's fate reminded him of his beginning and mother (novel version, mother was sold to a brothel). CZ paid for her contract and took her in as his maid.
CZ gave her a new life and in the end, it was CZ who ended her life, completing the circle of fate for YX.
Finally done and I rated it as an 8. 8-8.5 is usually my middle ground rating. Review will hopefully come later…
novel: they did have a proper wedding night lol
XJ came back pretending to be drunk. that's the only way he could retreat from hosting. HY thought he was actually drunk and was talking out loud about how she could do as she please, caressing his facial features. XJ then responded with, explain how you will do as you please. there were some couple fighting and they fell on the bed, causing a ruckus.
CLS snuck his way to the wedding and chamber and heard the ruckus and loudly exclaimed, 'wow, that exciting!!!! uncle is amazing!!!' feinu had to retrieve him and force him back to the front reception.
HY was given an 'how to' exotic leaflet from her maid (given by a female neighbor since HY does not have any female relatives growing up). HY tucked it under the blanket when XJ was carried in. XJ came across it and HY was trying to explain and blushing asked if XJ needs to look at it.
XJ replied '...when it comes to this, men naturally know what to do without learning'.
wtf is wrong with this emperor, he seemed nice and then suddenly he s the worst he could be. just like someone…
LOL...he's not a smart/wise king as you can see. he's just mediocre. he became king with the support/help of the chancellor. that's the reason why the king puts up with the chancellor.
all kings are suspicious in nature, so if there is a potential threat, it doesn't matter how nice he is, he will be cruel to secure his place first.
Worst female living as a male FL ever, way too feminine and so unrealistic with such a tiny body expected to be…
there are pretty boys back in the days too lol. some guys (esp since all gender have long hair) are more dainty and fragile. it's not too surprising if HY is more on the dainty side as a guy. b/c of her physique, fragility, and pretty boy feature, no one respect her at the army.
the novel version's description of HY matches the actress playing her. in the novel/audio book, HY made her voice more 'manly' and down play her features (like thicker brows).
lol...what have you been watching???drama:HRF's dad married HY's mom (her second marriage). HY and HRF became…
the drama glide through their connections and didn't really explore into it. i thought the mom was a concubine at first since that would make more sense. second marriage (esp one with children) is not common. even if there is a second marriage, if there is children in the first marriage, the children stays w/ the first husband's family (if there is live relatives).

for women in the past, once they are married, they stay with the husband's family...unless they divorce or separate. it's uncommon for the women to stay at her maternal family after marriage. if divorce/separate, she would be sent off to a temple or country side estates.
for cheng lei's fans...watch him in: a familiar stranger. this was the first drama i watch for cheng lei (a newbie then)...it's a mini drama so it goes by pretty fast.
Idk if I read the same novel as some of these reviewers. I thought it was a very good adaptation. HY was reborn…
novel reader. i would not say it's a 'good' adaptation. a lot of characters were excluded or combined to fit the screen. HY and XJ's characters from the novel is slightly altered in the drama as well.
it's still watchable but i would not say it was very good.

He family have one wife and one concubine
wife (legit) - HRF
concubine - HY
it makes more sense to me if they make them 1/2 siblings vs stepsiblings.
per novel, they were born the same day, so switching them out is easy.
CZ gave her a new life and in the end, it was CZ who ended her life, completing the circle of fate for YX.

a perfect name for their daughter.
