What!! They're only airing 1 ep per day from now on? I guess it's a good thing I haven't fully caught up yet since I won't have to wait that long

Do you have to watch this if you watch season 1, or can you just stop after season 1?
You don't have to watch S2 if you prefer not to. It's just that the natural thing to do is watch it because it concludes the story. This drama was filmed and expected to be aired in one go but due to China's new rule saying dramas cant exceed 40 eps, it was forced to split into two parts (seasons).

I will say though... many people including me think that S2 isn't as good as S1, so if you liked S1 and would rather not ruin the good memory you have of it or believe the ending of S1 is already conclusive enough, then don't watch S2.

I wondered for a long time what the lyrics of Xiao Yao's OST mean and who it's meant for. After analyzing the…
? What do you mean? It's her defense mechanism; she keeps her hopes low and her heart guarded to protect herself from getting emotionally and mentally hurt. Some people use this as their defense mechanism in real life too. "Expect disappointment and you won't be disappointed."

Title Fangs of Fortune Spoiler
So Bai Jiu has been poisoning ZYZ but the rest of the team is like "nah no biggie" ???? Like the fuck is going…
I also feel the same. ZYZ deserves so much better 😭 He's so kindhearted and the number one victim IMO. Yes he killed some people but it's not like he wanted to; he was controlled by the malicious energy. When Li Lun threatened to kill the others or told him to choose between Bai Jiu or ZYC, etc. ZYZ refused because he considered them all his good friends and said such wonderful words about them, so it really hit me when Li Lun said "You consider them your good friends but do they also consider you as theirs?" I'm not saying that the others don't care about ZYZ at all but their actions are so insensitive sometimes.

Thank god I didn't watch ep 19 til today. That cliffhanger ending would've left me in shambles! Anyway, I'm glad the Bai Jiu spy situation got resolved quickly. Of course I knew my demon hunting squad would never be pure evil. The only despicable ones here are the members of Chongwu Camp, who take advantage of innocent people's desires (though it'd be pretty interesting if we later find out that they also had morally debatable reasons for doing what they do, since this seems to be a recurring concept in this drama lol).

However, I'm disappointed at how anticlimatic Li Lun's death was. He just vanished and... that was it. The way they played it made it seem as if Zhu Yan truly never cared about Li Lun which I know (or hope) isn't the case. They should've gave us a montage of Zhu Yan and Li Lun's moments afterward, or Zhu Yan grieving over his friend. But since they didn't give us a grand ending for his character, it does make me feel like he'll be resurrected later on. They can't just end his character like that!! ....... 🤔🤔🤔

There's a lot to take in in these past few episodes so I'm glad they decided to take a break and air only one ep per day for a bit, even though I really wish they could just air it all rn 🄲🤣

Title The Story of Pearl Girl Spoiler
you know? if she get on the boat immediately, no dramatic things like what have happened, higher chance them 3…
I thought that too! When her mom first told them to leave, she walked away right after, so doesn't that mean nobody really needed to push the boat and that her mom could've got on as well? Unless that was an error on the writer's part. But even so, couldn't the mom have pushed the boat then quickly hop on after too? I completely understand the mom's intentions, but there were possibilities for them to all survive that just weren't taken šŸ˜“

I just finished ep 2 and.... I DID NOT EXPECT THAT LADY TO BE HER MOM omg... My jaw literally dropped when she revealed it out loud. How heartbreaking for Duanwu, to find out who your biological mom is right before you're separated from her by death 😭

And I'm really liking Duanwu so far. I love how she was so persistent in getting her mom on the boat, that her mom had to knock her out in order for her to stop. Most other characters I've seen would've just been crying "Noooo!" but never actually take action like Duanwu.

Title The Story of Pearl Girl Spoiler
In a story, It's a TABOO to make the female character a plain Jain from what I've noticed. Not saying your point…
I completely understand where you’re coming from. I’m just stating my honest opinion, that I prefer a bit more realism than what we’ve been shown so far.

Since the story starts off with Duanwu's harsh experience at the pearl farm, I don't think making her look like a "plain Jane" during that time is a bad thing. In fact, it would actually make us more compelled to root for and empathize with her. We the audience would feel proud seeing her transformation from a plain Jane to a beautiful princess-like character, you know?

You pointed out that the main character should have something special to distinguish themselves from other characters. I don’t completely disagree, but if they look drastically different, it can be distracting and make the audience focus more on their appearance rather than their personality and skills, which hopefully isn’t what the writers want… They’d want us to root for Duanwu because of her beautiful heart and growth, not (just) because she’s physically beautiful.

But let's just say we go along with what you said. In that case, they could've at least done it more subtly. Like for example, instead of giving her a different outfit or hairstyle from the other pearl hostesses, they could give her just one unique accessory that draws the audience’s attention but still enough for her to blend into her environment. Then, they could use lighting and camera techniques to highlight her during moments where she’s like dancing or talking, to further ensure she stands out from the rest.

Very observant 😊 there's a reason why someone wanted her to stand out among the pearl hostesses, why she can…
Oh there is? No wonder why that lady treated her just a bit better than the others, giving her medicine and not rejecting her request to let her friend Lala join as well. I guess I'll find out once I get to ep 2!

It's funny that majority of people that have high expectations for this drama ended up not enjoying it while those…
Very true! Tbh I was first only interested in this cuz of the beautiful aesthetics lol (it's what I loved most about MJTY) so I didn't really have any expectations. If I like it then I like it, if I don't then I don't. I didn't expect to get pulled in right from the first episode and love the drama as much as I do now, not just the story but also many of the characters.

I feel like the OST for this needs to be talked about more! Literally not one bad song in the album, I'm replaying…
Yes! The soundtrack is just stunning, so majestic and nostalgic at the same time. It's no wonder the drama constantly plays music even for a short moment. They knew the songs were too good to go to waste 🤣 I'm most obsessed with Yan An (Li Lun)'s song at the moment

In the winter too 😭 I'm glad they decided to go the realistic route, but I also know it's not easy to act and film underwater. Props to ZLS and the team.

Water scenes were film underwater for real. Huge applaud to the team and Lusi šŸ‘šŸ»Here’s the behind scenes…
The water was so cold but she didn't seem bothered at all. I love how she wanted to make it look like Duanwu was free in the water. She succeeded cuz that was my first impression when I saw the ep. She looked like a mermaid, one with the water. Truly a great actress!

Title The Story of Pearl Girl Spoiler
Just finished ep 1. It's a pretty nice drama so far. I was rooting for Duanwu's safety the entire time! So glad she was able to make it out of that awful place. But I have one major complaint....

I really wish the stylists weren’t so focused on making Duanwu stand out. We all already know she’s the main character, they don’t have to constantly shove it in our faces, especially given her backstory.

At the pearl farm, it drove me nuts seeing her hair down while everyone else had theirs tied up and looked like they’d been through hell. Then when she became a pearl hostess, everyone had their hair up but only Duanwu had side bangs. They wore sashes over their shoulders but Duanwu didn’t. And her top? Cropped and had different designs from everyone else’s. Unless I missed a scene where the higher-up characters decided to give Duanwu special treatment out of all the pearl hostesses, it’s painfully obvious they just wanted her to stand out as the lead.

Why is this such a big deal? Because we’re supposed to root for Duanwu and empathize with her after seeing her suffer at the pearl farm, but how are we supposed to do that when she looks like she had it well since the beginning? It doesn’t feel genuine at all. Thankfully Zhao Lusi’s acting saved the day. She made Duanwu’s struggles feel real, even if her styling didn't. And yes I know this is an idol drama so things like this are expected but still 😐 I'm still looking forward to the next episodes though, I just had to let that out.

Anyway, sorry if this sounds like a dumb question LOL can someone inform me if they really filmed those water scenes underwater? Sometimes they look real but other times it looks like CGI or possibly some other filming technique to make it look real. If they truly were filmed underwater then I must applaud the team! It must've been a struggle to act and film underwater that many times.
