He is red flag, at least in the beginning since I've only read til ch 9 so far. He's a red flag bc of his misogynistic mindset, refusal to contribute to chores, constant shouting and kicking things, and hiding secrets from his own gf. Gui Lili is also a red flag but I find her more annoying than red flag tbh. Either way, she or anybody else shouldn't be criticized like that. If Li Yifei is truly a good person, he should have a respectful conversation with her (whether it's to address her issues or break up with her) instead of yelling back and leaving temporarily.
As Qian Fei put it, "The man was full of young master’s airs, never lifting a finger to help, throwing tantrums when things didn’t go his way, believing it was natural for men not to do housework. The woman disliked labor, loved dressing up and acting cute, and was more delicate than anyone. With two ancestors like these who both needed to be waited on, it would be a miracle if they could make their relationship work." (Ch 8)
Sorry if I'm thinking too deep about this. LYF and GLL's relationship just reminded me of my parents' so I have pretty strong opinions about these things 😆 The two changes I hope the drama makes is having LYF break up with his gf before renting the house and toning down/removing his aggressiveness and misogny.

LYF sounded like he kicked the coffee table, saying impatiently, 'I’m so tired of your fussing lately! Can’t you understand? Why did we have to move these past few days? This project needs to be reported to the Securities Regulatory Commission next week. If I don’t finish writing the discussion points today, we can’t have the meeting tomorrow, and next week I might as well quit and live on air, okay? Forget it, I’m going to the office!'"
Ch 5 GLL: "When I ask you where you’re going and who you’re eating with, you don’t say. What do you mean by keeping secrets from me like this!” LYF: “I don’t want to deal with you!” ... LYF: “Are all you girls so fickle? When you first start dating, you’re all sweet and clingy, but once you’re together, it’s all crying and screaming?” “Don’t tell her about me eating at the Cheng family banquet tonight!”
Ch 6 GLL: "Li Yifei, I’m your girlfriend, not your maid. You can’t expect me to do everything!” LYF: “Gui Lili, as a woman, isn’t it natural for you to do laundry and cook?” GLL: "I’m an only child. My parents raised me like a son. Why should I be the one doing all this?” LYF: “If you can’t even do these things, can you even call yourself a woman?”
Ch 7 For the next few minutes, [LYF] held the flashlight and watched in amazement as QF swiftly replaced the fuse. “How do you know how to do this? Are you even a woman?”
Ch 8 LYF: “Where are you? Why aren’t you home so late? What do you mean I’m always home late too? I’m a man, how can you compare? If I’m out socializing late at night, no one gossips about me. But if you’re out late entertaining your boss, I worry people will point at me and gossip! How am I being rude? If you didn’t behave so inappropriately, would I speak so harshly? Gui Lili, how have you become like this? Can you still be with me properly like a decent girl? Come back right now, or don’t come back at all!”

Geez can my girl get some genuinely caring people in her life for once and not people pressuring her to do this and that? Even Hu Zining is suspicious. I feel like he's gonna turn out to be either a liar who was only after her house or smth idk maybe he just wants to sleep with her, or he's gonna turn out to be super clingy and naiively supportive cuz too much of a good thing can be a bad thing.
And Tan Jianci ily but your character Li Yifei rn is just 🚩🚩🚩 red flags everywhereee. He just let his girlfriend organize their belongings while he sat around on his laptop 💀 AND that pos Wang Ruohai needs to leave my girl alone. Y'all broke up already gtfo and stop gaslighting her into thinking she's in the wrong
But I'm curious to see how things will evolve from here... Even Qian Fei, although she's not a bad person, she's too gullible and indecisive. I hope she can become a little more stronger and confident in herself.

People who read the novel, can you tell me what was different from the show?
There are a LOT of things that were changed, especially in S2. S1 followed the novel fairly closely. Here's the important ones that I can list right now. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong or add on. Sorry in advance that it’s long and there’s a lot of Xiang Liu in here. I may or may not be biased lol, I’m just really salty and disappointed about the changes and this is not even all of it 😭 You should read the novel when you have the chance; it’s better and more intriguing than the drama!
Major changes in the overall drama:
- Some of the names. Cang Xuan was called Zhuan Xu in the novel, Xiyan was Xuan Yuan, Haoling was Gao Xin, Chenrong was Shen Nong, Chi Chen was Qi Yo. - Xiao Yao's feelings for Xiang Liu is obvious in the novel. The drama made her seem cold to him and downplayed every scene of them together (ex: altering dialogue or parts of the scene).
Major changes pertaining to S1:
- Omitted scene: After hearing the mermaid's love song (S1E37), XL explains to XY that the clam shell is both a home and place for mermaids to mate and bear offspring. Eventually, XY grows tired from swimming, rests in XL’s clam shell, and has a happy dream about the ocean. When she wakes up, she gets flustered thinking about how XL views his clamshell and tries to cover it up by saying she’s hungry (Ch 26). This leads to the scene of XY cooking fish for XL.
Major changes pertaining to S2:
- Jing gave a beautiful proposal to XY in the novel (Ch 38) unlike the drama where XY suddenly interrupted and thanked him before he could properly propose (S2E11). - Only XY, Jing, and the Haoling Emperor went to see her mom Xiling Heng (Ch 36 / S2E15). All three spoke with Heng, not just XY, and it took place in a peach blossom forest (the spirit of XY’s biological father Chi Chen), not a house. - Omitted scene: Novel XY learned the truth about the bugs she shares with XL (Ch 37). - Added scene: That YaoJing kiss scene and XL feeling it (S2E16) absolutely did NOT happen in the novel. - Added scene: Novel XY was very sad when Jing died but never held a wedding alone (S2E18). - That dream sequence in S2E18 and S2E19 actually happened in the novel. CX really did kill Jing, not Xin Yue. He survived because XY didn’t poison him enough while XY was saved by XL (Ch 47 & 48). - Omitted scene: Xin Yue hired demons to assassinate XY. She was saved by XL. They met Left Ear (the slave demon from S1) who then became XY's bodyguard alongside Miao Pu. They spent a few days at sea. Before XL left, he gave XY a sea map (Ch 43). - Added scene: XY reminiscing about Qingshui Town and XL (S2E20) was not in the novel. - Drama XL used XY’s blood to heal her after killing their lovers bugs (S2E21 & S2E22). Novel XL used it to revive Jing (Ch 46 & 49). - In the novel, Jing’s death and CX’s betrayal led XY to become Royal Mother. Jing reappeared during her ceremony so she changed her mind (Ch 49 / S2E22). - Novel XY found out about XL’s death after her wedding to Jing. She was screaming, extremely devastated, and in disbelief. She then decided to leave for the oceans because “XL said there were endless uninhabited and uncharted islands, perhaps [her and Jing could] find a beautiful island to call home” (Ch 51).
