Grand mother plot is written badly... otherwise.. it would have been a good drama with positive vibes... of not giving up or whining when things fell apart.. they always look forward to make things work... possible bcoz its a small town....!!
These days and time... No investigation or DNA test before allowing a long lost, grand daughter home... forget about handing over the business on a platter to loot from....
Me on the rewatch mode! Ep 18 @ 20.20 Minglan's first encounter with Manning, you can see how capable Minglan is. @ 31.30 Minglan's First confrontation with Gu TingYe, you can see back in her mind she knows she can trust him, thats why she sent her girls away... she never had any fears of being alone with GT and also she knows she can speak her mind without being misunderstood. Both were classy.....!

Ok Finally I have finished, I am amazed by the character Zhuang Shi Yang by actor Yu En Tai. What an actor to bring to life such a low life character whom everyone hated to the core... There isn't a single person in his life that he cared or loved.. which makes him worse than an animal.. (Animals will feel offended). If you notice in Ep 30, when Hanyan gave him such a wide spread of food... he was fidgeting with the food, resting his hand in the food, with his hand, what all he was doing... bcoz he thinks everyone is like him, so he cannot trust anyone. great acting...!!!
Wen Zheng Rong... jeez she was something... when she screamed the first time when we saw..her.. I thought i am watching some "Carrie" movie... powerhouse.. she was.
Chen Duling did her part very well... i am happy she got her drama finally... she really looked the part of the frail young thing, all the way to a noble lady...
Xin Yunlai first time I saw him in Cry me a sad river... what an amazing movie that was.. Here eventhough many people commented he was wooden, but i feel his part was like that.. he didnt want any attachment or start any relation . so being emotionless is his part...
One thing i must complain is his hair do.... atrocious!! that wide and hanging bun on his head... it looked like he got the wrong hair piece...some old lady's sloppy bun.....lol!!!

And in the drama from beginning till ep 25 he is getting away with it... 25 episodes.. no one could expose him...!! Does that mean.. there was no one smarter than him....???

1. A Familiar Stranger... is a short drama, but keeps you glued to it.. 2. The story of Minglan.... If you want serious amazing drama, too good, I rewatch every now and then, 3. A journey to Love, is another action packed drama... If you want a drama, with amazing music, CGI, Leads have good chemistry... and also have lots of humour.... 4. Then Legend of Shenli... (so funny and serious too) Palace Politics....5. The Rise of Phoenixes 6. Nirvana in Fire 2 - Really heart warming family plus politics...
these are all costume dramas, will take a few months.... then there are lots more...

Much as I loved The Rise of Phoenixes, I would also like to warn you that IMO (I stress on this) the last 10 episodes deviated totally out of character for me.!! Maybe I failed to understand...something.
But its still worth watching bcoz this is such an amazing creation, the story, lavish costumes and interiors settings, the shrewd mind games of erratic and dangerous Ning Yi (Chen Kun), Incredible Feng Zhiwei (NiNi) who is sometimes Ning Yi’s accomplice, good at being a man, my first time seeing an actress in male disguise looking great, she is cocky, loves drinking and gambling. but she can at same time has the demeanor of a refined scholar. Other outstanding character is Feng Zhiwei’s loyal bodyguard, Gu Nanyi. Thats the first time I have seen Bai Jing Ting in a drama... he was toooo good.
Its very good but slow in between... very different, cannot guess at all.. I am at ep20 and at times... you are…
well there is no other way around it..... sadly, the way the story is going. but its a pretty good crime thriller, with so much plot twist.. will keep you guessing.. most of the time.
btw "Drifting away" is another crime thriller i saw recently which is also a true story and its a happy ending..
