Ep 1 - 3 is a slow introduction of FL and her family background, Then the salt Smuggler ML and their encounter and life forward...but from Ep 4, it changes completely...
FL is from noble aristocratic family... lived a pampered life.. like when common people were struggling to get salt... they scattered fine salt across the courtyard to simulate snow... but with scheming people around.. spoiled her reputation and family poixoned her and left her to die... but ML saved her.... so they are on the run from EP4... life changes... Once FL comes on to center stage... the story takes off.....
If you have patience/interest to continue.. its a very good drama ....but even I was kinda lost in that first 3 episodes... and also didnt understand at that time....
Thats what i thought when I saw ep 26... but you will see it much more clearly how things turn out in ep 27 by…

At the Birthday banquet, I was confused if Madam Wu was trying to help FTY or set a trap, but at that moment what they wanted was to get permission to move grand mother's body back and get FTY accepted as Fu, which they got, they were so unprepared for this, it was a bigger hole they dug for the Zhaos..... and fell for it by accepting it. It angered the Emperor...so much that he is taking it out on ZL..!

Actually, it was not FL who nominated Shen Congsi. Madam Wang suggested him to her because she felt he was a good man with good vision and would be a good support for ZL. Also, it is a fairly distant relation, so I don’t think that would really affect things.
ZL should not be electing anyone for the post. He is excellent at leading his team, winning wars, and strategically planning how to get things done in battlefield etc. But he doesn’t really understand palace politics or how scheming everyone in the court can be. He is slowly learning that side of things.
FL, on the other hand, is very good at schemes and planning. ML came from nothing, whereas FL was born into an elite family, so naturally their knowledge and understanding of the situations are very different. But FL always think about him and looking out for him and how to improve their lives and, at the same time, how to protect and safeguard ZL.
Even when they were on the run initially, ZL was badly wounded and they took shelter in a temple. There they met General Mo and Master Zhao, who helped them. FL noticed the things being used by the person inside and realised they were from the Imperial family. She also remembered Madam Yu saying that an Imperial envoy would be sent. That was when she told ZL that it doesn’t matter where you are born; what matters is where you eventually reach. She pushed him to work with them.. which led to them saving him from many situations and eventually when CP became emperor... he got chance...!
Actually, this drama is really very good, but you definitely need to pay attention to the details. There are so many little things that become important later!

FTY is too classy to understand and gracefully ignoring, she knows its her insecurity or lack of confidence is making her do all that and she has bigger picture in her plan.. For her Yake is not worth handling...!

Yake is a concubine's daughter, that too in Fu family, so she desperately wanted an out and when this noble guy chases her.. she was desperate and betrayed her best friend... I think thats how FTY think of the situation. Actually her main enemy is her husband.. who instigated the whole thing, He manipulated Zhou also...!! Zhou also was made to that way by the way Fu family treated her...! Fu grandmother was a vulture...!! FTY is lucky to ZL saved her and treated her well...!!
