Yeah, I ended up watching the full series and thankfully it gets vastly better.
I mean, the first episode is so dam disconnected to the rest of the show, so unnecessary and overall terrible that makes zero sense and it's like a completely different series. Which is a pity, cause all other episodes are 100% watchable and even, dare I say, occasionally very cute. It leaves a bad taste that it's hard to get over, so I chose to pretend it doesn't exist in order to enjoy the rest of the show…

I am watching the first episode right now, and I find it extremely difficult to stomach 😟 I mean, I am not prude at all when it comes to my BL series, I can watch "grey zone" characters, toxic relationships etc and separate them from real life, but Chi Cheng is plain and simple, a sociopathic, horrible, cruel criminal… The gang rape scene was so shocking and triggering and the attempted murder was wtf to the point that made the animal cruelty in the beginning of the episode look like nothing. I haven't read the novel (thank goodness) but I remember watching the first adaptation back in the day, and it was nothing like this… So, does it get better or do we see more crimes like these during the series? Thank you so much in advance, and sorry for the long post, but this is the only comment I could find addressing this issue… everyone else here says it's the best series ever 🧐
