This movie was supposed to be sad given the dialogues. Its vibe at first had the potential to be on par with Happy Together (which is not happy at all), but eventually I didn't find myself feeling the pain for the characters. Their encounter happened so fast and the atmosphere was slightly dead air. Acting was good, but there was lack of chemistry between them, and something about the plot execution wasn't stretch well.
What a great film! Superb acting and production. Interesting characters from talented minstrels to manic king to jealous concubine, this period piece is very engaging! Definitely going to my classic faves.
I was annoyed watching the first few eps. on how most of them treated Pooh and how he tolerated them. I also didn't get the significance of the student's story. Was it Pooh's other side helping him? And Ryuichi being a total jerk. Second half turned okay, although things suddenly changed towards the end. I like that the drama has artistic and poetic perspectives, and how it features Ikebana... Initially a hard watch, but not that bad to me. 6/10
Production-wise might be a high budget considering the setting, but the editing seems off at times particularly on first few episodes. There were times like the FL's clothes would be changed and then repeated in one episode, it's like they shoot different sequences using same wardrobe haha. I guess that time they made a good promotion of the place and the singer because the soundtrack had been sang a lot by the cast. Chemistry-wise, Tammy & Ambrose are really comfortable with each other. I find the conflict in later episodes unfair because of how Mi Yang acted. At least with Xiao Jun and Batman guy, it wasn't that intimate, but with him and temporarily blind girl, it could really affect and hurt Xiao Jun (not to mention if someone is anxious and can't see, shouldn't you bring her to a hospital or to the police because she's missing?) Side characters Nurse Xiao, Feiyang and Minnie are fun, wise, and may be troublesome at times. I watched this raw so I only grasped a little, but I guess their lines were interesting and might even be funnier. Overall, that was visually pleasant and a nice look-back for my nostalgic heart ^^
It started as bad. Their first encounter makes Yuma a jerk already so he not trusting Naoto was also himself. Poor Naoto fell in love, but when Yuma doubted him, he also didn't explain himself... he didn't even tell him about his condition probably coz he knew their time together was temporary. Either way, their relationship was predictably messed up!
The actress is Yumiko Okayasu. I didn't like what happened to her character... she could've just injured :/ As for the male lead, his driving scenes with nice soundtracks are cool!
the secretary tho, it's normal for the wife to help her husband, can't she give them a little support? :/
Keisuke's anxiety is already concerning to the point he's having hallucination (it was done comically, but I feel a bit sad for him). Sora is smart and cute, he doesn't need a tutor lol. That tutor literally helped his sister instead of him, smh. First ep reminded me of Ore no Hanashi wa Nagai, only Mitsuru got married. There, he talks (explains defensively) to other people... here, he talks a lot to himself haha! Also, this is Hana Kimi reunion. Can't wait for the writer to meet his actor ;)
It took me a while to notice that the actress was familiar and few minutes more to realize she was the Obachan in Amachan, I love her! Anyway, the moment the two actors appeared on screen, the chemistry was there right away. The way their faces were so close to each other when they talk would be inappropriate this pandemic, lol. I know their first scenes were crowdy, but it's like two people attracted to each other so they lean towards each other :p
likes: - the feast/the lunchbox/having a chef father - background music - Li Kai is handsome af - Uncle Wen coming back to work only to cease breathing (sorry, that was amusing) - touching moments - father regaining his sense of taste --though it wasn't badly impaired as he could still make good food, but I think it's because he tasted something new (Jia Chien's cooking coz it's been a long while) so his taste buds came to function - and THE TWIST
Overall, entertaining & funny! For a slice-of-life/family genre, it was a nice watch.
Expectedly great acting from the cast especially Yamada! I'd been meaning to check this out coz of him, only to realize the lead was Toma. As for Kumiko, I noticed her role is often provocative (at least from what I've watched), she has this soft refined look that makes it tricky when she's playing out. The movie is slow-paced, weird and tragically amusing. There's a couple that I felt like trivial, just there for naughty part. Their story is not really connected throughout so I don't get the screentime about it. I wanted the married couple to have more scenes but it quickly wrapped up. Music is good (end credit) - Running Away. It fits the characters' sentiments. Most of them are self-serving but interesting to see... it's like "do things your way but you have to pay" kind of deal between the characters.
Very good film with interesting concept. There's humor as well as heartache. The cast are not just visuals but also great actors. And the view from rural mountains is stunning and heavenly high!
Wow, nostalgic. This was aired at my end way back, though I never really followed it. Basing on pictures, some cast got the vibes to be a counterpart, and I think Chantal Andere is very iconic that the portrayal of her characters would be challenging.
