There is no way the ML would be anybody if he was not stone-hearted. He is very well contrasted to her ex husband who is wishy washy and can never do anything. To protect people and accomplish things one should fight and win, not miss opportunities constantly. If that ex really loved Mu Dan, he would never mention her name again, pretend she is dead, he cannot protect her but constantly brings attention to her - CRAZY!
