I'm an international audience member too, and I think it's just a matter of subjective opinion - I think everyone looks great! (I also don't understand what would be wrong with anyone looking "gayish" in the first place, but again, that's just my opinion.)
I've only watched the first episode and a half, but I really like the look of the drama - it's nicely filmed - and it's a super interesting time period. The plot is also moving quickly so far. Too soon to tell anything else!
