Today was the booting ceremony, which means they're celebrating the beginning of filming. It's too soon to know when it will air! It will film for 4 months. Then, costume dramas have quite a long post-production period before they air. So, 2025 at the earliest.

it's supposed to be different from last year, so we won't know exactly what it'll be like until it airs on May 2nd. we do know that for each "mystery", one of the main cast is the murderer, and the rest of the cast has to find out who it is. also, only the murderer is allowed to lie. They don't play as themselves - they have character names. I haven't seen those Korean variety shows, so I'm not sure how similar they are.

hey there! while I, too, appreciate when there are English subs for the Chinese shows I watch, I think maybe you haven't considered: - how much smaller the overseas audience is for Chinese variety shows is (especially considering the size of the Chinese domestic audience in comparison) - how much work it is for fans to not only do English translations, but then also code subtitles into a video Because of this, my approach is to always profusely thank anyone who takes the time to subtitle anything, while at the same time make sure I'm not coming off as though I'm entitled to English translations of everything for me. it's one thing to complain to WeTV - go right ahead! They're a huge company, they can pay translators! but expecting free translation is another thing.
So the pilot dropped and is available with subs on WeTV/Tencent….its very funny. Ive updated accordingly but…
Do we know if there will be a new episode tomorrow? My Chinese reading comprehension isn't great, but I thought it said at the end that new episodes were coming out on Saturdays?
This isn't without its flaws - the main issue being that it moves very slowly - but for the things it does well, it is head and shoulders above any other cdrama. It shows that despite the many challenges facing the Chinese entertainment industry, it is possible for a top-tier prestige drama of HBO caliber to be made in China. It very much deserves the many awards it has won.
This drama has so much to say about the Chinese economic changes of the 90's, about trauma, about corruption, about human nature. The acting, characters, and setting are superb across the board.
I commented earlier in this thread about the OST when I'd only watched a couple episodes, but I have to say again that the OST is really outstanding.
If you are feeling a bit burnt out by guzhuang and idol dramas (as I occasionally do) and you don't mind a dark suspense drama, I highly recommend this,.
He's performing on the evening of March 28th in Shanghai at 电视剧品质盛典 (the Shanghai Media Group awards ceremony), and then I hear he's recording Hello Saturday in Changsha on April 2 & 3. Yay, more Ning-Ge coming soon!
