Also I was wondering if anyone has watched Ruyi's Love in the Palace. Is Yanxi or Ruyi better? Is it worth the…
But then, if you read up on the true ending of the second empress (who is historically known as the step-empress), you will realize that Ruyi's was not that accurate. Ruyi gives the hope that the Emperor and the step-empress were lovers, but the true step-empress did something to the emperor that was so bad, he hated her but never took away her position. This is where Yanxi was more accurate.
This was completely worth the 70 episode count! BUT, I will say that because it was so long I felt that some story…
The whole drama is based on true historical events.
1) All the concubines were based on the real concubines of the Emperor Qianlong 2) A concubine named Wei moving quickly moving up the ranks and having 2 boys and 2 girls with one of the boys unfortunately dying young. 3) the love between Fu Heng and Wei YingLuo probably never happened in real life, it was just there for dramatics
Honestly, 7.7 does not do this drama justice. I once dropped it after just 4 episodes but then I gave it another chance about 4 years later, I promise you, I was pleased.
It is such a chill, laid back, no unnecessary misunderstanding, no over-the-top "evil" second leads kinda drama.
Definitely not the best Taiwanese drama out there, but at least an 8.5/10 from me.
Any one who says not to watch this drama or says this is a bad drama is a LIAR and should never be trusted with anything. The only reason I gave this a 9.5 instead of a 10 is just because there was something at the end I wished to happen but didn't but that's just a personal quirk. Besides that this is one of the BEST K-Dramas to EVER exist!!
This is one of the best Taiwanese drama's out there. I have watched a number and they are usually very draggy (because the focus is always the main couple and there is only so much you can do with them). They could get so bad that watching the first 20 and last 10 episodes will tell you all you need to know about the drama. BUT not this one!
The third sister was trash and I definitely skipped her scenes cause her so called "love" story was so irritating to watch.
HOWEVER, the rest of the sisters were okay. Especially the first two. The first sister was way more mature than I was expecting and the 2nd sister's story was pretty cute when she wasn't crying. The last sister's story seemed like they added it in last minute for filler but I felt it was manageable and definitely a better story than the third sister.
Overall, between a 7.5-8.5 depending on your taste. I will recommend it as a good show to watch when cooking (or packing like me)
If we are going to be honest, this drama is as cliché as you can get (minus the whole second lead thing). It is not breathtaking. The whitewashing got annoying at some point. It is pure comedy with romance in it. I honestly preferred the comedy. I strongly believe that if not for LDW and YIN, this drama would have mild success. Max 7/10, and that is being nice.
I have watched this drama so many times and I am still not tired of it. I want everyone to get this straight....
XIAOLE was the highlight of this drama!!! So much emotion from a child actor!!! He displayed 10x more emotion in one scene than the second male lead did in the whole drama.
I don’t know if I just had high expectations cause all the actors in this drama are really good, but I was disappointed. I wasn’t overly disappointed, but there was definitely disappointment. It is your typical lakorn where there is so much evil and that “good-always suffering” girl.
Acting was really good The story line itself was very typical.

I have had this on my PTW list for the longest time cause I really loved the Japanese version and I have high expectations for this version.
I low-key have a suspicion that this may have a higher rating than the J-version just because it's a K-drama, or it is a bit more dramatic.
