found out Zhang Han wrote and produced this play. The dialogue between the characters and how the female characters are being portrayed says a lot about the type of person Zhang Han is.
One of the few high rated dramas that actually deserves its rating. Some of the rating happening on MDL these…
OMG!!! Someone who thinks like me! I thought I was crazy when I just couldn't get into Who Rules the World. I am a big fan of both Yang Yang and Zhao Lu Si but MEHN that drama was very average. A max 7/10 (really pushing it) IMO. One of the comments on Douban says "Yang Yang's face is undoubtedly the biggest selling point of the show" and I honestly agree.
Douban is a good place for more accurate reviews at the same time be careful. The same way international fans go hard on positive rating no matter how good or average a script it. Chinese anti-fans are known to purposely attack the drama ratings of certain actors/actresses.
9 episodes deep. If the writer's goal is for the viewers to hate the Male Lead. They have succeeded. he is one of the worst types of people I have ever watched.
However, I love Seven Tan and I empathize with her character in the drama so imma keep watching
Disappointed cannot even start to explain how I felt after this drama. Kept skipping and eventually jumped from episode 16 to episode 54. Still couldn't save it.
Not my cup of tea. I think people just like looking at Allen Ren's face (He is handsome so I do not blame anyone lol)
I think the main reason people were not happy with this is because they had the expectation this was a Story of Yanxi Palace continuation and not a story of it's own.
I loved the food bits and even loved the historical bits. I am a fan of historical dramas but I usually skip over the political parts because I find them unnecessarily dramatic and feel I can understand the plot without watching those bits. However, in this drama, the political scenes were kept brief and direct and I do not feel it overwhelmed the drama at all.
I have a feeling that if the main leads acted in this before SoYP, the rating on MDL would be super high.
I really really wanted to love this because of how highly rated it was.
Objectively, this is an awesome drama and I believe it deserves all the praise because YES the story is well written, YES it was beautifully directed, YES it was very touching. However, it was too slow paced for me, the angst was very there (although not the irritating unnecessary type of angst). So a 7/10 ~ 7.5/10 max for me because I know it is objectively good, but subjectively, not for me.
I guess I should have watched it at a time when I was in the mood for something sad.
I would definitely recommend to someone who is looking for something that pulls on your heart and has wonderful chemistry between the leads.
This had so much room to be better than it was. If the screen writers had worked better on properly intermixing the political plot, the romance and the comedy, it would have been one of the best dramas.
But I have noticed with a lot of the dramas Rosy Zhao acts, it gets tiring so fast. Each episode took me 10 minutes to watch and I still got the gist of what was going on.
I loved his character in the Bond. I think he probably had one of the best character developments in that drama. I could tell he is such a good actor and I'll definitely start following him

6/10 for me honestly
