Article Why your Jane Austen-loving friends should be watching K-drama
I agree with some points wholeheartedly, and disagree with others. Catherine DeBourgh as a kdrama mom is pretty spot on. (Darcy also decided to play evil mom at one point, with Bingly and Jane.) But the whole point of pride and prejudice is that Darcy was not actually as much of a jerk as he appeared to be, while Gu Jun Pyo kinda grew into being a better person. Also, Lizzie wasn't poor. Her family had a high social standing as she was the daughter of a gentleman. (Although her mom being really silly and her uncle being involved in trade were a problem.) There was a clause attached to her father's property that his yearly income and property could only go through the male line, and her parents only had girls. Meaning that Elizabeth lived the life of a well-off girl but would be poor when her father died, if she didn't marry well. P&P did boast 2 evil second leads though, Bingley's sister and Wickham. And there are enough misunderstandings in the book to fuel 6 kdramas.
