This movie has really stunning visuals, and Kim Soo Hyun's acting is superb, but it lacked some solid and consistent plot. I actually quite liked it in the beginning but the more I watched the more meh it became. I actually needed three tries (first one was around a year ago) before I was able to finish it. I'm mad because it had so much potential...
Ending is kinda sad (one person dies, if you want more info, I can tell you more details) but it's been foreshadowed that they might come back to life in second season. Romance isn't the biggest part of this show, but when it appears, it's super cute.
Tbh I would love if Rise of Phoenixes or NiF2 won, but I will gladly take anything as long as Bloody Romance doesn't win. Even if it's Fu Yao, that wasn't that great.

Xiao Yan is a different person - more dark, less forgiving. Role of Hall of Souls and Blood Clan is different. In show, plot is driven by 'let's save the world from Hall of Souls', meanwhile in book it's more like 'let's get stronger and get revenge for Yao Lao' Backstory behind Yao Lao (Yao Chen)'s 'death' is different. Yao Lao is different. Han Feng is a different person as well. It's not Nalan Yanran's wedding but Yun Yun's. Xiao Yi Xian is a different person, and Hai Bodong (funny merchant, Xiao Yi Xian's father in the show, but not in the book) is different as well, and is actually present during that fight. Xiao Yan's father isn't crippled, but Nalan Jie is. And many many many more... Some parts are similar (but not the same), some parts are entirely different. Show is more kid-friendly, Xiao Yan in the book kills people, flirts with girls and steals stuff.
