yeah but like you said, their relationship lasted a long time -- 7 years. she definitely became a lot more mature when it ended (it's only 2 years from current timeline). if she was insecure about his parental disapproval when she was 25, she probably was not anymore at 32 if their own relationship was strong enough of a foundation for her. unless it was not. i think the conversation with his mother was the last straw.

i dont think there's such a law in asian countries (im from southeast asia and we dont have it here). i think in the drama it's probably made up to serve the plot. but it can also be a metaphor for discrimination against anyone that goes against mainstream patriarchal/ cultural norms. single women are viewed as a threat to society because they dare to break away from the patriarchal nuclear family structure. this is shown in the conversation qin shi had at jin's house where she said being a housewife is exploitation because it is harder work at lower wage. the idea of women staying single goes against this exploitation. if all these women were single and pursued their careers, who would do the unwaged labor for these men to be professionally successful?

if more women were to stay single like qin shi and li dai, companies like cheng & hui probably didn't even exist.

i feel like she ended their relationship bc of other reasons than just this. YH stood up against his mom for her in private so she didn't exactly know he stood up for her. she apparently is very aware of (and having fun messing around with) YH's disapproval of their relationship so I don't think parental disapproval is a deal breaker for her. It has to be something else.
