It is easily a 8.5, I would even say it deserves 8.8 MDL rating wise. But the kids downvote it because its not…
I'm sorry but you're proving my point here. Kdrama DID gain a lot of new fans/ viewers after Squid Game. People who never watched Kdrama started watching it because it appeared on their Netflix feed after watching Squid Game. Also, people who did watch Kdrama but Netflix made it easier for them so they stopped watching from other sources and stuck to what is being released on Netflix. All fine, no shame or anything, and it is a good thing for Kdrama's growth overall.
Some of these fans are coming here to comment and rate. You will find a mediocre drama that is on Netflix easily surpasses a good drama that is not on Netflix in comments, number of ratings, views, and reviews. Look up Black Knight which is a medicore 8-episode drama, and compare it to a decent drama full-length one like Bloody Heart for example. That is what exposure does.
Thinking that this trend of dark, heavy, excessive themes is abnormal and Western shows how little one knows about Korean releases tbh. Koreans are not new to dark/heavy themes AT ALL: 1. They have been doing them in their movies forever. Their movies have always been superior to dramas and usually known to be dark, explicit, and mature-rated. 2. Kdrama goes with the trends. Every few years a new theme tops the trends and many dramas follow that trend. It happened to be dark themes now. It hasn't always been only Rom-Com. At this point, I wouldn't dare say that rom-com is what describes Kdrama. It was trendy when Hallyu was a big thing. That gave a lot of people the idea that Kdrama is all about Rom-com. The reality is every few years there is a new trend. All these themes have been overused at some point: makjang, memory loss, saeguk, investigation, time travel, work place, ghosts, schools, bullying, lawsuits, forensic, revenge, bad parenting. You will still find odd dramas that do not follow the trend all the time too. 3. There are so many dark dramas that have been released before. Ever since OCN and TvN entered the scene they've been enriching that area of dramas. The only reason they can do so is they are not broadcasting stations like KBS, SBS, and MBC. They did not have to worry about kids watching them. They had more freedom. The only difference between Netflix and cable channels is that it provides a platform where profucers can produce the same level of explicitly and crimes as they provide in their movies without censoring kitchen blades. Kdramas on Netflix are almost becoming extended Korean movies.
I don't want to sound like I know everything but if you're curious look at my watchlist. You'll see where I am coming from. I've been watching Kdrama since 2008 I've been using this site since then. If you still think the dark, revenge, circle of evil theme has not been around you should watch these: Strangers from Hell, Missing Noir M, Reflection of You, Save Me, The Village: Achiara's Secret, Nobody Knows, My Beautiful Bride, Children of Nobody, God's Gift, Priest, Voice, Through The Darkness, Bad Guys, Bad Guys 2, Gap Dong, Mother, D.P, Bad Guy, Sign, Psychopath Diary, Mouse, Secret Mother, Woman of Dignity, Mine, The Guest, Mistress, SKY Castle, Extracurricular and Sweet Home. The only thing you won't see is explicit and blood scenes. Because most of them were broadcasted on TV.

Well, I would rather blame it on the Netflix attracting that type of demographic to Korean shows overall. Because before a good drama will actually get good ratings. The only problem used to be fans of a certain cast member. Which one could easily tell. Now it's whatever is popular on Netflix is getting good ratings, sadly. I watched both shows. Both were good and to each it's own advantages. But Mask Girl deserves a lot better than this.

Tbh to me Mask Girl was more fulfilling than The Glory. For how much the protagonist prepared in The Glory it felt a bit luck-dependent. Meanwhile, Mask Girl only wanted to live fine. She fought hard for herself and her loved ones in heated moments unplanned.

I would be really sad if it's a certain Kpop idol fans did this because their favourite was not perfect as they thought. I am a kpop fan myself but kdrama is just acting. It should ot be affected buy such.
It's a strong drama, full of crimes, no dreamy stories nor happy endings. It's about insecurities, mental issues, grave mistakes and plot twists. It's an epic and a masterpiece. I would say it's more of a movie material but I guess it's too long for that.
The ratings are really unfair. This drama deserves at least 8.5. It's a masterpiece.
It's not for the weak hearts. It speaks for the most common mental illnesses and complexes in modern society that anyone could have. Your coworker, classmate, neighbor, or friend could be dealing with such problems in secret.
The cast did great. each one of them. The story is well written. It's a bit of makjang, which I personally don't prefer, but it's a good one.
I don't understand why people hated it. I'm still trying to understand. Please tell me. I'm curious.
I wouldn't say gore but explicit, bloody and 18+ crimes level. If you watched a lot of Kdrama and are familiar with their level of censoring this might throw you off badly first 3 episodes. They usually blur every blade for the sake of it. But since the whole drama is a bout circle of evil I think it was acceptable. It's not a drama for kids or teens anyway.
Joo Oh Nam's mom dies by police for carrying a gun and shooting. Momi and her Mom die trying to save Mimo. Mimo is adopted by her friend's parents but continues living at her grandma's house. She finds videos of young Momi dancing and being super-happy in her element.
Obviously, they're coming back to this village. There is no way they don't give Alice or the supermarket lady…
They kind of did give Thomas one. They showed on news that they found old bodies of some resistance guys and they showed that scene with him simultaneously disappearing through a door. His scene with Il Young could have happened before that in the time between the last time Wook and Pan Seok seen the village and finding his body. Il Young also took a year to find Wook.
I thought it was good, i didnt care for the main story i like all the side stuff.I reckon the lady didn't cross…
Obviously, they're coming back to this village. There is no way they don't give Alice or the supermarket lady a conclusion.
For Il Young being able to move right away, I wouldn't be VERY sharp on that. This is a story about missing people and giving them closure. It's not about the livings. I do prefer it this way where everything about the living is mostly a minor event that passes by quickly. I actually find it super funny how Jong A is able to spit money and provide everything while just chilling around.
This drama mixes fantasy with reality so much but still maintains a good quality. I find myself able to happily put up with many of its weird ideas and plot twists because somehow it fulfills something nice. I really love it. I never felt a drama should never end or should have endless sequels.
