Same thoughts about the scene. It was a rape, plain and simple.I will stick with KP until I can no longer manage…
I'm not seriously expecting it, but one can hope.
My first thought of how to deal with the scene is to just establish that Kinn is mentally ill up to a point when he has visual and auditory hallucinations. From there, you can go two ways - either the rape didn't happen (too safe and kinda bland imo), or the rape happened in a very different way (which leads to a lot of pain and angst).
As for consequences for Kinn, the most obvious one is losing any chance he ever had with Porsche. But that's not gonna happen, since the show's named KinnPorsche. The second one would be for Kinn to have so much guilt, he can't be happy with Porsche, even if Porsche forgives him. The third one would be to isolate Kinn and (metaphorically) beat him down until he wholly regrets what he's done and then some more, until the audience (me) is satisfied with the karma. This one is the most "probable" out of them. Or a mix could work, too. I just want it to balance out in my heart ๐
I feel like I should state my opinion on the sex scene more clearly. So here it goes.
To put it simply, I consider it a rape.
Porsche was obviously not in his right mind and couldn't consent. We can see that by Porsche laughing hysterically, pointing out of window on random things that might even not be dare, not being able to walk on his own... I believe everyone can see Porsche wasn't sober during that time.
Now, just because it was a rape, doesn't mean it shouldn't have been included in my opinion. I understand it's a part of the overall story. But it's also important HOW you include such things. And here we're getting to my main problem with the scene. Instead of it being portrayed as an assault, it was shown as being romantic. Sensual. Desirable. Without the drug context, one might even call it tasteful. That's what makes the scene icky for me. Like a mud, it makes me wanna go take a shower. And it looks deliberate, compared to very clear, somber tone of the assault from Vegas's side. I would argue that what Vegas did was less toxic and problematic than what Kinn has done. Because it was portrayed in an adequate way.
The problem with portraying this in a muddied way leads to people accepting it as right. Or excusable. Or hot. And while we can say everyone here can separate reality from fiction. I highly doubt that's possible. You might be affected by it subconsciously, in a way you won't realize. It's harmful.
That's basically how I see it. I won't try to convince anyone though, since it would turn out to be a waste of time. Just few more things I want to address from comments below :
"It's an 18+/mafia show, you should have expected it." - That's like a get-out-of-a-jail free card. People can't, and shouldn't expect every possible trigger just by seing the simple label. Unless they make a 10+ second content warning discribing exactly what's going to happen beforehand, every person won't be prepared for everything. And even if they are prepared, they can still criticize it or get hurt by it. Label doesn't excuse it.
"Porsche wanted it/initiated it" - Porsche was drugged. Anyone who's ever got drunk/high knows we are capable of doing stuff we wouldn't do otherwise in that state. Stuff we may regret. Stuff we may forget. Stuff we might not care for and even stuff that might very well ruin our lives. How Porsche felt at that time doesn't matter. Because he couldn't process those feelings and make sane, informed decision. He couldn't give consent.
"Porsche pushed Vegas away, but not Kinn. That makes it fine" - No. Drugged people can change their mind and feelings several times a second. That's why it's such a mess. It's very possible that if Vegas switched places with Kinn, it would have ended up the same. Also, drugs aren't consistent in time. The dose might have been too strong at start, which is why Porsche lashed out at first. But after it got absorbed/thrown out more, Porsche could become more docile. Also being in quiter place with fewer people could have made him let his guard down. My point is, in a state Porsche was, his behaviour can't be explained away. Because it isn't based on logic.
"It's a show, not a reality. Chill out." - Basically what I've said at the start. As long as it isn't portrayed accordingly, it might still altern people's perception on real life rape (whether they admit it or not. Whether they even realize it or not. We people are easily influenced and adaptable).
"It wasn't so drastic/violent" - That might make it even worse in my opinion. If people were put out by the violent act, they would understand it's bad and wouldn't have liked it/enjoyed it/accepted it internally. It's way easier to normalize and romanticize with the nice slow music, soft filters and sensual moaning. That's the worst part of it.
"Porsche needed the release because of the drug effect." - No. Just no. Kinn is a rich mafia boss. He could have afforded a doctor to treat Porsche. They could have cleansed him, or knock him out. Or drug him so he won't feel anything. They had plenty of options. And raping him wasn't the best one.
There were also people who debated what drug was used and how it could have affected it. This has no merit in my opinion. Plainly bacause it wasn't explained in the show. Even if it was a magical drug that makes you only have sex with your one true love as the best experience of your life. Most people won't google it. They will just see a drugged guy, being raped romantically.
That's about it. I hope Kinn will face real consequences for it, though I'm not holding my breath. I will also continue to watch KP, and comment on what I like / don't like and utterly despise. Main takeaway from this is, the scene shouldn't have been there in the way it were. They should have made it drastic and disgusting, and put a content warning at the start of an episode.
Overall, the episode 4 was the best made one so far imo. Pretty balanced in terms of light and dark. Even the comedy was more up to my taste (or I've got used to it). And the plot thickens.
When I see people complaining about the content in the drama, I can only shake my head. This is a mafia drama.…
It's not only about what's portrayed. It's about how it's portrayed, too.
Both the beating and shooting scenes had a grim atmosphere, befitting the crimes.
The drugged sex rape was portrayed as romantic, sensual and hot. There's already other BL series romanticizing rape. KP didn't need to be one of them ๐ค
This is long. So absolutely feel free to TL;DR this bitch.I will open by saying that I am walking away from KinnPorsche…
Same thoughts about the scene. It was a rape, plain and simple.
I will stick with KP until I can no longer manage it, but I hope Kinn faces consequences for this (not legal, obviously).
I would also hope everyone could agree it's a rape and that it was portrayed too soft and romantic for what it was, but CP taught me better. I don't even have the strength to argue with people about stuff like this anymore.
I will miss you here on KP, but I'm sure we'll see each other on Star in my mind page. I'm already curious what you'll think about it!
[Episode 4 notes - I know I'm late. Rough weekend]
The starting scene went from really cute to pretty funny in a second! I approve ๐
...He doesn't remember. That's why drunken kisses suck in unclear relationships. Not only you can't fully consent, there's a chance one or both parties won't acknowledge it (/take responsibility) afterwards. We deserve better.
Is Kinn a bad kisser?! A canon? Serves you right, Kinn! That will teach you not to kiss drunk. (It might also felt weird as Porsche's first kiss with a man, but I like the first option more ๐คฃ)
Kinn remembers. Ha! Now suffer ๐
I just quit smoking recently and Porsche is tempting me like this ๐ But if I had Vegas bringing me the fire....
Jealous Kinn. Serves him right.
Porsche is still as reckless as ever ๐
Very weird segue into the tattoo.
He just wanted an excuse to come sit closer to Porsche, didn't he? ๐
Poor Kinn, asking the hard (read "dumb") questions.
I'm not gonna comment on that. Too proud.
I like Vegas and his veiled threats ๐ค
Tank the hero! ๐คฉ
Why did Porsche hide behind the curtain? That's bound to make things worse.
Not to be thirsty, but they could have shown Kinn's boytoy without the underwear. It looked weird. And I'm sure the drama will involve more disturbing stuff than man's bare ass ๐งก
55555! Mood-killer.
Porsche just earned himself major scout points with me. Almost enough to become likeable.
"We only kiss people that we like" - That's not exactly true, but if it brings Porsche closer to Kinn...
Kiiiiiiim!!! He's so cute ๐๐๐
The knowledgeable fan is Porchay?
Porchay sure did shoot his shot. And failed successfully ๐ฅฐ
I bet Porsche is (over)thinking the kiss. Even if he doesn't show it.
Kim is my favorite right now ๐
Wait, Porchay is Porsche's little bro?! How stupid am I for not remembering it? ๐
Vegas ๐ค
Gosh, Porsche ๐ You should have told them you're feeling iffy before going to the toilet!!
Drunken kiss is one thing. Drugged sex is on quite a different level. I hope Karma's got its kiss prepared for Kinn ๐ถ
The big revelation was predictable af. But aesthetically pleasing โค๏ธ
I don't even know what to think of this by now. The show could have been so good!!! Big budget, above average actors, good music, nice visuals, interesting premise.
So why, for the love of gods, did they decide to go with that "script"?! Has anyone read it (including the writer(s))? Has anyone edited it? Where did they fail to realize this is so not it?! Whoever signed under that script, I would have liked an explanation. You wound me.
Also, it would have benefitted from few dozens of content warnings. Or major tone changes. Preferably both. It still staggers me how this is considered cute, relaxing show.
Overall, after episode 10, I dread episode 11. And episode 12. I will finish it so I can get a closure. But for everyone starting right now, I would advice against watching it (unless you're just here for the fanservice and are capable of ignoring the mess they're trying to present as plot). For anyone stuck somewhere in the middle, wondering whether it gets better - it doesn't. It's getting so much worse. Even roasting the hell out of the drama isn't worth it anymore.
Reading your post is always so entertaining, tbh ๐ And I can't believe there's someone else who googled the…
Kirin's personality disappeared so soon in the show, I barely remember it. I expected the yt channel would be related to his music career, but one never knows. So thanks for the info!!! I didn't feel like skimming through the early episodes just to look for the mention ๐
I liked upto 4 episodes, now storyline is getting nowhere, main couple is not revealing their secrets and not opening…
The thing is, everything Kuea "hides" from Lian is only about Kuea himself. Kirin, his studies, his hobbies... it's his privacy. Though I agree you shouldn't hide these things from your partner, it's up to Kuea when and how much to open up (also, Lian already knows, so it's pointless).
The things Lian hides from Kuea are directly harming Kuea. Like not telling him he's the one who took Kuea home from the bar. Not telling him about the Keerati family's situation. I believe there's a major difference between those.
I wish I had that kind of unwarranted confidence ๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Let me keep some semblance of sanity by hiding behind spoiler tags ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ๐ญ
