I don't think the plot is really that messy. Minus the last episode, in which they clearly were setting things…
i don't fully understand the games they were playing with each other. i only know the bad guy wants to know who killed his brother and the good guy is just a good cop who wants to do good lol. from the last scene, i think the bad guy ruled out the good guy as a suspect and that the good guy may now want to help the bad guy find out what happened to his brother!!? i'm not sure.
i just need a season 2 so that i can see the MLs couple era. we need to see that otherwise what's the point. what intrigued me the most about this couple is that they have such a different dynamic than the typical chinese BL. i was kinda shocked that he chusan turned out to be the pursuer while liuyi is the other way around. now i wouldn't be surprised if he chusan turns out to be the top and liuyi the bottom 😂

yeah the thing with the second couple is that they were introduced quite late and out of nowhere i had to focus on these new characters who weren’t very interesting or likable. it felt like even if you skipped their storyline, you wouldn’t miss much. maybe i'll be more invested in them next season.

yeah like i said i wasn't a big fan of the show. i gave it a 7/10 which is still a good rating from a strict rater like me lol. the thing that irked me the most was the bad dubbing! believe me nothing looked like the 80s. i know it personally that's why it somewhat bothered me for not being able to fully immerse in the era.
but i enjoyed watching it overall, mostly stayed for the boys. they were really good, esp the actor playing liuyi.
yeah you helped clear up some points like the girl's age and how being in the 80s, it was hard to track. while i wasn't thinking much about the police finding them, it was more that i found it odd that the gangs from both sides were looking for him but couldn't pinpoint him. maybe not enough time had gone by like you said.
the gun part annoyed me because he is a big gangster. he obviously has many guns, he even particularly bought one for he chusan. he could have used that one.
the post credit scene didn't make any sense to me at all.
the show has many shortcomings. maybe the budget wasn't that much.

yes you are right, messy wasn't the right word. it's more like ridiculous. i would say from ep 7 onward, the plot took a nosedive. liuyi started acting out of character, trying to hook he chusan up with a girl who if im not wrong was underage. and how easily they escaped the crime scene and managed to stay under the radar for days. liuyi fighting with knives! why not use guns? the whole he chusan's rescue didn't make sense. it was so tense and then the next moment he was just laughing around. the plot was supposed to take place during the 80s but nothing looked 80s to me, not the clothing, not the hairstyles, not the cars.
Finished it. The last episode was chaotic. I don’t understand what the deal is with the second couple. I wasn’t paying much attention to them. I kept watching despite the horrible dubbing because the MLs were phenomenal. Besides the messy plot, their acting and chemistry shine through and make you invested in finishing the drama. I really hope we get a season 2.
lol why is everyone dragging him for his haircut? 🤣personally i don't think it's that bad. maybe they gave him that haircut coz if not, we'd be done for. just look at his face, he's gorgeous.
wth was ep 8! he got married for his mom, but then she dies shortly after anyway. he could just go back to lu feng if he wanted to but i guess he blames lu feng for his mother’s death. and why does the girl marry a gay guy? what does she even get out of it? does she think she still has a chance or what? and then a 5 yr time jump and then they conveniently get divorced. nothing substantial happens in between. what was the point even? he has been hiding from lu feng all these years but now suddenly decides to see him again. everyone is overreacting. nothing is making any sense.
sorry but i was lmao when he pushed that little rat down the stairs. he deserved it!! should have happened a long time ago actually. also the fact that lu feng has managed/tried to send everyone who comes between him and yichen to the other side, one by one is just too funny 🤣
The dubbing in this drama is atrocious!!! But if you can ignore that part, the show becomes quite enjoyable. I just don’t understand chinese dramas, they put so much effort into everything but then use poor voice dubbing that doesn’t even sync with the actors’ mouths! It took me THREE attempts to finally get into it. Im about to start ep7 now, and from the spoilers i've seen in the comments, im bracing for a bad ending.
there is such a good rapport between these two actors. they match each other so perfectly. their chemistry just locks in even when they are just having a conversation.
Take my advice, leave your moral compass at the door when you watch BLs. Then hopefully you'll enjoy them. It's not that deep, it's a freaking BL. It's fiction, not a real life documentary. It's gonna be cringy, it's gonna be messy, it's gonna be toxic, it's gonna be flawed, it's gonna be sappy and we're here to enjoy it ok.
i've said this before in another drama as well, we really don’t need a second couple in a chinese bl! i don’t understand why they keep forcing them into the plot just to fill that role when it’s so unnecessary. they’re just taking up screen time without adding anything meaningful to the show.
the younger brother is incredibly annoying as always. his obsession with his older brother is not cute at all. it actually comes across as weird and creepy.
ok let's talk about the good part. wow the make out scene between the main couple 🥵!!! the hottest i've seen in a chinese drama.
there is a huge gap in acting level in this drama. the main leads are on a completely different level while the rest of the cast feels bland in comparison and drags the show down. don't know why chinese bls have to have a second couple!! here they are so not needed, their acting is flat, zero chemistry and they add no value to the story.
this drama may not be the best BL i’ve seen, but the chemistry between the two actors feels so REAL!! this is big for me because out of all the BLs i’ve watched, i’ve never gotten such a genuine real life couple feel from a pair before.
i know they’re acting, of course but they are so natural, there is no hesitation, both fully committed and dedicated to the craft.
watching this show is so therapeutic. there isn’t much going on, no drama, nothing, just two men talking but it’s so good that it draws you in and you immerse yourself in their story. everything feels so intimate.
maybe im just imagining it but i feel like the little brother is a bit more obsessed with his big brother in a nonbrotherly way. he’s too clingy and super annoying.
