After watching episode 19, I think Jiang Li may reclaim her Identity as Xue fang fei. Initially, I thought she would remain forever as Jiang Li, especially after the conversation she had with Duke Su at the beginning of episode 18.

However, since her family’s attempted massacre is connected to the illegal mining of the imperial gold mine case, I’m guessing the Li family and princess wanning tried to recruit her dad but he wasn’t corrupt, so they ruined her family via Shen yu rong. If that’s the case, using Jiang Li’s identity to unveil the truth with Duke Su can earn her a big merit for the country and a possible pardon for identity theft. I’m curious to see how the drama ties all this together.

Yes! 😭 she didn’t want to wear the undergarment from the guard they knocked out because it was too smelly, so he stripped in front of her and gave her his own to wear. Fusing comedy in a drama or movie with heavy elements like thriller, action or even horror is really popular in kdramas or movies, eg Vincenzo, Mr Queen, IOTNB etc, but the “dark comedy” has to be cleverly done or else it can be a bit jarring with the mood of the story.

The governor’s antics made sense because it ties in neatly with the story, a greedy, corrupt and lecherous man with an obsession for the opera got dramatically taken down after trying to cart away royal tribute, like the ML said, it’s completely believable. However, some of the jiang family antics are a tad bit unnecessary, but not enough to affect my enjoyment of the drama. I just chuckle and move on.

They are clearly attracted to each other, however there is no declaration of feelings yet, not to mention she was drunk, so it’s understandable that she is a bit uninhibited. I would say the most logical thing she is doing right now is getting him firmly into her corner. She need allies badly, against the jiang family and concubine Li, not to mention she still has to save her father (from previews of upcoming episodes). Realistically, she needs to use the
male lead’s authority to aid her schemes. The main reason why her scheme against the corrupt governor worked is because the male lead pulled ranks to help her. So I think it’s smart for her to use him too cos she really does need the aid. Also this is a 40 episode drama adaptation so they have to conclude everything satisfactorily within the episode limit, so it’s understandable if things develop a bit faster than the novel.

Well deserved for The Double, although seeing FSMM trending downwards is a bit sad ngl. I anticipated that drama for months only to be greeted with a shoddy plot and zero chemistry. And it had such a big budget too.

Yes, he was crying about jiang li’s mum earlier in the episode when he was drunk, but later in the episode, when he was preparing his wealth to give to the corrupt governor, he mentioned that “his brother and wife suddenly died”. Around ‘34.57’ mark in episode 17.

The female lead and her family lived in a town called Huaixang, not the capital, so it makes sense no one in the capital knows her. I guess if she goes back to her town, some people may recognise her, as we see in episode 18 previews.

Ye family has 3 sons and a daughter - Jiang li’s mum. The first son and his wife are dead - the third uncle mentioned it in episode 17 but we don’t know how or why they died. Maybe Ye Shi jie is the son of the first uncle.

He is definitely more warm to her, he literally pulled ranks to help her solve the Ye family case. However, I like it better that he still retains his coolness a bit, so it’s not too much of a 180 change. I don’t like MLs that become simps after falling in love. Plus he has to remain focused because he has his parent’s case to solve.

I keep replaying the first 10 minutes of episode 17. The chemistry between these two is wild!
