So Ji shuran is as vicious and heartless as she is because of her father, and in turn she tried to make her daughter as vicious as she is. Violence begets violence. She would have succeeded completely if JL hadn’t talked sense into Ruoyao. Seeing her drugging Ruoyao to achieve her evil schemes is a stark parallel to her father using her to achieve his greedy schemes.
I still don’t understand the whole hate against JL from her family. Is it just a cliche that it follows Cinderella…
Actually the step mother’s arch makes the most sense to me. If you have had any experience with polygamous homes, this sort of behaviour isn’t that uncommon, infact worse even happens. It’s all about the competition, jealousy, who is more favoured, whose daughter will marry the best husband, etc. The step mother probably thought sending JL away to rot at the nunnery will get rid of her for good. But XFF returning as JL, as beautiful and smart ever, and more recognized than her daughter, probably triggered her more. She tried to take her down a notch but after XFF/JL didn’t fall for any of her schemes, so she got progressively more unhinged.
I never thought I would say this..but I actually feel a bit bad for Ruoyao. Sure, she is a spoiled, mean, selfish little brat but how many kids can grow up normal with that sort of scum for a mother? The fact that she had the courage to defy her mother to save JL (well she was the cause of JL’s plight in the first place but still..) shows that she has some back bone despite being tightly controlled all her life by her mother.
I also think it’s a nice touch that they didn’t have XH swooping in to save JL, I think thats what most of us expected would happen. However, it makes sense instead to use that opportunity to add some more layers to Ruoyao’s character. It also shows that JL is very smart and quick thinking because she used the opportunity to make that cursed rapist expose his true colours in front of Ruoyao. As annoying as she is, that idiot doesn’t deserve her. Also, Jiang Yu’e is such a dimwit, I hope she has the worst ending, idk why she is always so desperate to set up JL.
The highlight of the episode for me as always is the interactions between JL and XH, seriously they are too cute. At least, now that he has given her that whistle to use whenever she needs help, wen ji doesn’t have to get his permission to spy on her..lol.
It’s interesting though..starting this drama, I thought XH’s character will be more like Xie Wei in SOKP, but it’s the opposite. Sure XH is dangerous, powerful and scary but with JL, he is such a green flag. WXY really killed this role!
There’s one cute detail I noticed, when jiang jing rui held ah li’s hand, she removed her hand and told him “men and women should not touch”, but then XH has held her hand so many times, carried her and even given her his clothes and she is so happy to oblige…their slow burn romance is everything.
I get that Fang Fei said she was fine with being Xiao Heng’s pawn and she told him to use her but it is still…
I feel like she has used him more as a “pawn” actually..so it’s funny to see him call her a “pawn”. Literally from the beginning, she used him to get back to the Jiang Family, and he has been helping her along the way since then. They are more like partners atp.
Is the main plot focus too much on FL/ML? Do ML/FL share equal screentime? ML/FL are Arrogant types? Any Love…
The plot is female centric and focuses mostly on the FL and her revenge so far. The ML is the cold, aloof and powerful type but he is soft towards the Fl, and they have great chemistry. There is no significant love triangle, the Fl has other guys that like her but they don’t stand a chance currently.
Is this something you know from reading the novel? Otherwise, how do you know that she was not having the affair…
It’s all speculations for now. She and the painter were lovers, then her father separated them and she got married into the Jiang family. Like you said, maybe she was pregnant already so she was hastily married off.
Afterwards, he contacted her again and she cheated on her husband with him, then tried to burn him alive. In the drama, it seems that she really liked him at one point, so if she went that extreme, maybe she was trying to hide something.
Either Ruoyao is the painter’s child or the unborn child she accused the real JL of killing is the painter’s child.
The problem with changing the Princess' character and plotline in the drama is that her actions make less sense.…
The princess’s antics is exaggerated for sure, but I think the way SYR is written is really good. It would have been very easy to make him a caricature villain, but him being conflicted, paranoid and regretful also makes sense, because all things considered, XFF was a really good wife to him and perhaps there was a time he loved her at least before his greed for princess’s power and influence took over.
As the audience, we don’t actually completely sympathize with him because the way he dealt with his wife was unforgivable, but the way he is written in the drama make him a more layered character…in fact one of the best written in the show. Atp I’m curious to see if he will go off the deep end with the princess or attempt to redeem himself somehow.
Tbh the whole time I was thinking, why did Wan Ning think that SYR would admit that "Jiang Li" is actually his…
She is psycho and doesn’t think things through. SYR tried to dissuade her so many times but I think she didn’t mind SYR getting backlash if she “wins” against XFF…I think she has serious insecurity issues towards the FL atp.
