Thank you so much for this article, it was a great read! I've been using MDL for few years now and my opinion on this subject is till rather divided. At first I would read all the reviews and a lot of the comments too, to try and get a feel for the drama/movie, but with time it got more and more frustrating.
It wasn't just people writing reviews without finishing, it was also, the very biased and unhelpful reviews, (sometimes for the exact same drama) such as: "omg this drama is so underrated! asdflkjhg "so and so" actor is just so great in this, you need to watch it now!!!!1" or "ugh soooo overrated. I'm tired of the same actors getting the lead "so and so" actor was awful in this! Dropped!"
These types of reviews are not helpful at all. Reading a 10 star review followed by a 1 star review without any sense of structure, without a compelling argument, or explanation of what the drama/movie entails and why the reader should watch or not, is not a review.
From time to time you'll find excellent reviews. They talk about the drama without spoilers, they give an honest opinion without being biased, while at the same time mentioning both strong and weak points of the drama. In the end the reviewer lays out their thoughts but lets you, the reader, decide whether to watch or not.
I appreciate MDL's efforts to improve this section, but these days I just flat out ignore any reviews written, even after the drama finishes. I can't stop people from writing unhelpful biased reviews after 2 episodes of a dropped drama, but hey,I don't have to read them either. :) (Maybe one day i'll change my mind! Keep up the good work!)
Thank you so much for this great article! I have been watching Life on Mars since it began and I was in love since episode 1 :D Like you, I also didn't watch the UK version, so I don't really have a point of comparison. I have no idea how close it is in terms of plot, and I might just watch it after the korean one ends.
Well, I don't know about you guys but my room just turned into a sauna. Those were some steamy scenes xD This show is not the sort of thing I usually go for, especially since there is no plot. At the moment the story is basically fluff... but you know what, imho there is this comedic sense to the drama and to the characters that makes me giggle, so I still find it enjoyable. I know it's fluff, but I'm here for the fluff, so bring it on!
Just finished episode 14 and I part of me is ready to drop this. This drama is not bad, but I'm having a tough time finishing it. Can't quite put my finger on it. I can't really feel the romance tbh, but I enjoyed all the business politics and also the secondary characters.
OMG! I was loving this from the start. With every episode it got better and better, but after watching episode 10, I was blown away. I didn't know this could get even more entangled and awesome, but wow, it did!! My face watching the end of episode 10 O_O I can't wait for next week now.
I'm giving it 2 more episodes, but so far it's pretty bland. I love dramas with a supernatural element, but this time it isn't strong enough to keep me interested.
Never seen anything with Rain and I just randomly found this drama while looking for some action dramas. I really enjoyed the first episode, the premise looks interesting :)
Honestly this drama started out as a 10. It was really refreshing to see their relationship develop, but then as the story progressed it turned into a crap fest. The last few episodes really ruined this for me. I really loved the acting, the mood, the emotions, the music, but could not stand the meddling parents, the same old blame the victim office harassment, the let's breakup and move to another country because things are hard and blah blah blah, and no actual solving of problems. The last episode was just so ridiculous... I have no more words left. How can you ruin a perfect story like this. Feels like wasted time.
I enjoyed it, but it lacked direction. I did like the characters and their stories but the main character was just left in sort of a limbo. Maybe because he was himself in limbo. Where were they planning to go with all of this? The ending was lacking and it felt rushed. Somehow it felt there was a lot more left to be said.
While I was reading this I was nodding and thinking to myself: this is very true, I keep telling myself to do all of this. Actually I've been trying to do this for years. I failed. I keep failing. I fail so horribly, I just keep adding more dramas to my plan to watch. There is no salvation. I have accepted my fate ._.
