I understand this. If Duan Wu was a normal girl who grew up in a normal family, these teachings would be very much welcomed. However, his way of doing things is suppressing her growth.
Duan Wu just came out of slavery. She's a victim of years of physical and emotional abuse. She's new to the feeling of "being a person" who can fight for herself. And so far (other than the issue with lady Zhoubei? at the temple) she hasn't hurt anyone who didn't hurt her first.
Even with all her suffering, she has a kind heart. So, It's quite unfair for ZJR to expect the victim of years of abuse to all of a sudden become righteous just because there's "righteousness" in the world. He's forcing her to accept his views without ever trying to understand her world. He's going to stunt her growth that way.
Like she told him, they are not of the same world. Personally, I don't think it's his place (ZJR) to tell a victim how to react to their abuser.

He gaslights her with toxic positivity, and there's a little bit of unintentional emotional manipulation going on there too. (Not the usual one... but very much guilt tripping) In a way, he's using her innocence against her to feed her his idealist views of the world. Which is not/ will never be her reality. I don't know if you guys have noticed, but every time he's stopped Duan Wu with his "righteous" words, she has suffered more emotionally. The beginning of ep 10 and the end of ep 10 both displayed this.
Though she was able to withstand his guilt tripping in the beginning of episode 10, you could tell his self righteous words tore at her heart. She wasn't able to guard against it at the end of ep 10. We kinda see her give in.
Hopefully, he doesn't succeed in wearing her down with his self righteousness. I feel so bad every time Duan Wu has these emotional breakdowns😢

I knew he was just an annoying self righteous, pretentious, preachy idealist with no concrete solution since ep 1. I had him pegged since that scene where he and Duan Wu spent the night talking under the stars and he never even asked her about her actual life on the pearl farm. He was just spewing idealism at her. Poor Duan Wu was so happy to have someone finally talk with her about life on the outside. Also, I knew he wasn't sh*t when he still never tried to learn about what really happened to Duan Wu when he got her out of the water (forgot episode). That's when She had asked him to write a peom. Cause that's all he's good for. All talk, no solution...
I'm so glad yall are finally seeing him for who he is...rightly so!!! I really was side eyeing people with SML syndrome...But thank God his beauty did not fool yall forever... Welcome to the other side😈🤭

I think the reason why so much time is spent on the pearl war is so our FL can learn the ins and out of the pearl world, since the show is about her gaining a foothold in this world and becoming the best pearl jeweler!

Lol oh trust, I completely agree with you because I had this same thought since ep1. All the tension of the show is built around ZYZ and ZYC. Their story and plot is intriguing, and enigmatic, that's why they have such great chemistry.
I think it's also the reason why the ML and FL do not have any chemistry because this is not their story. I think she's just here as support. That's why the "love" story btw them is so very simple.
It's my belief/suspicion that the writers wanted to tell one story, but ended telling another one due to censorship. (Lol cause it feels like the FL is actually not needed). But still, they are trying to tell it in their own way.

Her character presence isn't strong (not talking about physically) enough to leave a lasting impression. There's nothing there to root for

That show was the most explosive show of last year. It's such an amazing show with grown up romance. It also has one of the baddest FL assassin ever written in cdrama land.
Okay so...her dying so much in ep 2 wasn't really that funny to me. But her getting hit by a huge azz meteorite from space because she refused to carry on with the ridiculous plot was too funny. That whole visual made me laugh so hard my stomach hurts. It was just so unexpected 😂😂
The most funny thing about this show is the FL annoyance at having to carry out and take part in what she thinks is a ridiculous plot. Her getting angry and defiant, then getting retribution from the game makers is always so funny 🤭😭
