Haha yes, it’s based on true story. I’m not 100% sure, but a friend told me that on ep 12 LJ asked Fwz why she wasn’t able to call him dad. So there should be an explanation but I’m only on ep 10 so can’t verify if it’s true

This is based on a true story. if the actual fwz didn’t go back to university then it’s not the screen writer’s fault for sticking with true events. Fwz did go back for night school though.

I don't like seeing adopted dad being disappointed or sad. I wish they can just fastforward to them reconcile

I really like listening to ss' voice when she does those little monologues or voice overs of a scene. The stuff she says is so insighful, and her voice and tone hold so much depth and story.

Your opinion is very common and similar to many. This is what some have explained why she couldn't call her adopted dad dad anymore:
-once she found out she's adopted, no matter how doting those adopted parents are there will always be awkwardness. fwz mentioned a few times that she was able to live in a good environment that didn't belong to her

Sorry it's a lot. These are generally the main reasons I kept seeing others say. Honestly, I get fwz and if I was in her shoes I wouldn't have the face to behave the same was as I was to my dad: whinny, clingly, complaining, acting like a spoiled child. Instead I would be more respectful, awkwardness, constantly on my tippy toes.

Also, knowing the school witness the whole ugly shabang of her and hanbin clawing at each others' face, I feel like she is too embarrassed to go back to the same uni. Students will talk behind her back. There's also the fact that her eyes are open to the endless possibility of ShenZhen. Back then, ShenZhen was the first port to be developed, so the saying that if you work hard you will get rich was true.

basically. intl viewers like to watch romance and pretty costumes or fantasy period. This drama is doing really well in China, and that's really what matters. Especially this drama where it takes place in 80s to early 00s China, I don't think intl fans can relate, while many Chinese older viewers can.

fwz couldn't muster her courage to say "dad" like she could use to so casually and openly. Instead she introduced him as "father" and he was even surprised. I hope one day they can be close, even closer than before.

He and his wife cherished and raised her in the palm of their hands, afraid she'd get hurt or not eating enough. She's never lifted a finger in her life, she was raised in an academic family. When her adopted dad saw the cuts and bruises on her hands, he must've been so heartbroken. The parents want to shield their child from hardship because they’ve spent years caring for them and imagining a gentler path for them. Going back to school is what he would have preferred, but since fwz is stubborn and want to make it in shenzhen, I liked that he didn't push and instead gave an ultimatum of 1 year.

Unfortunately, it's true, however it's on douban so it's not a credible source anymore. I saw it being mentioned on wb, and a lot of people comented on that post that it's a good show, and these haters are scared and rating 1 star. Also, for once, cvb speaks for itself, it's the only rating that can't be manipulated bc it counts on live viewership. Therefore, the 1 star doesn't align with the high viewership ratings. MD has a good rep right now, so any trolls trying to spread hate actually isn't working, unlike XY-that was horrible to witness.

A fan posted, I haven't watched that far in the drama. Either way, I find it endearing to have her dad so close with her. He's always there at the set waiting for her, and sometimes doing a small cameo role. This would be his 3rd one, unless there's more I wasn't aware of.
