I'm so glad you mentioned it!! I have noticed it subtly (that's also bc I read the novel and am aware of the author in a not so good point in her life and thus buddhism was a main factor in writing this novel). I really enjoyed how the Tonghua incorperated Buddhism in this drama.

Did anyone notice why zxt followed fl to the hut before she died? She noticed lx treated the dead with respect. Lx covered zxt's maid's corpse with a blanket. Hence, why she followed lx bc she knew lx would treat her body with respect and dignity after she passed. Rather than die with the rapists.

We empathize with zxt bc we see the root of why she acts the way she does. She never wanted to marry ml, she was forced to and after seperation, she's thrown to Dai family to marry the old hag. She's just a tool for Zhao family to get connections. They don't give an F about her and she's clear headed to understand this. She hated ml bc he revealed her affair and caused her to marry the old guy. She actually hated her life bc she was never taught to read or write, her family wanted her to be docile like a doll/puppet they could string. What's beautiful about this drama is the circumstances that causes these women to do what they think is the best route for their survival.
