I honestly have not seen a drama this good with solid quality acting, plot and character complexity. I enjoyed Minglan and it will forever be a classic but I still skipped some eps later on when she married Gu uncle. With ATC, I am pleasantly surprised each ep, it's already 2/3 in and I'm still excited to watch.

OMGGGGGGG. EP 33 was Brilliant!!! This drama's quality is so stable, each ep is even more brilliant.

When Lu asshole ripped up the dowry list, I honestly didn’t think much of it at the time, that tiny moment would become one of the most important pieces of evidence-and eventually a catalyst-for their marriage separation?! I love when seemingly insignificant details from earlier episodes come back with such huge consequences.

-When FL won the court case, HER LOOK. OMG. I don’t even know how to explain it. It was this incredibly steadfast, composed, “I dare you, fucker” look directed straight at Lu asshole. SO SATISFYING. She never backs down. With every single win, she just becomes more confident and keeps pushing forward.

-ML taking the extra 100 punishment strokes for his sister. I already knew Dai asshole was going to use that opportunity to get revenge. But then FL came in to save the day AGAIN. I love how brave she was in standing up to her husband and making sure the 200 strokes were carried out fairly. If she had been a man in that era, I swear she would’ve ruled the court herself. 😂

-I’ve genuinely never seen ML so HAPPY to receive 200 strokes. 😭 He’s basically become my comedic relief at this point. Him parading through the streets with his bloody ass on full display was simultaneously hilarious and SO embarrassing. Sir, PLEASE. At least put something over your head. And then he had to bump into Han scholar during his little walk of shame?! (no shame for protecting family). HAHAHA. I also really love the exchanges between FL and Han scholar. There’s this quiet understanding and mutual admiration between them that doesn’t even need to be verbalized.

-I’ve said this before, but ML is SMART. The fact that he deliberately used those 200 strokes as part of his plan to bring down Han Prince really convinced me that he knew exactly what he was doing when he asked the King for a marriage decree to marry a past servant, and then brought his siblings to the capital. None of this feels random anymore. He’s been playing a much bigger game than we initially realized.

And FL singing opera and transcribing opera manuscripts in the earlier episodes was NOT for nothing!! I LOVE this kind of setup. Now she has a perfectly logical explanation for her talents and knowledge when ML starts digging into her background or when he questions her. All those little details are finally coming together, and it makes the earlier episodes feel so much more intentional.

I swear, the more this drama unfolds, the more I feel like every tiny detail has been planted for a reason. I’m just sitting here watching everything connect like 👁️👄👁️

I thought Rugu meant story or chronicles. I googled this and wow you are right, I've been having misconception of the title. The title is so much more profound.

I appreciate the story didn't write Han scholar as first place in the exam, instead they had two older scholars as first and second. Han as 3rd at such a young age is already appreciated.

His subtle emotions and expressions are done so well in this drama. After watching it on big screen I like to watch his scenes again on my phone to see the details. I can literally see what his mind is thinking without him saying it out loud.

I use magnifying glasses to watch this drama. Nothing leaves my eyesight hahaha

Even after all that trauma, LX is so stable and strong, very clear headed. Whether she marries or stays single, without a doubt she will live her best life no matter what.

This is what a true heroine story should be. The man she chooses becomes the ml, if she chooses to marry another servant than he is ml.

Yuchan is a simp for LX haha. She's so confident in LX's ability, if LX said she can take down the moon, Yuchan believes.

I feel like furen is a more intimate way of referring wife. I find it cute and it differentiate how ml treats fl and ex wife bc he never referred ex wife as furen, but as her title madam.

He's slowly realizing that fl can live brilliantly without marrying him. She can survive anywhere, and I think this also scares him a bit bc she can leave him anytime (I know the royal decree binds them)

The director will have so many actors/actresses wanting to collab with. I never wavered in Tonghua's capabilities to create a masterpiece. I love her angst writing.

The beginning of each ep has a disclaimer that all characters and events are fictional and not based on history. They do use a certain era in Ming dynasty as a baseline though.

I watched too many timetravelling dramas/novels and it's romanticized too much-I'm being de influenced.

I find those two an intriquing pair. They would totally dominate if they became friends

That aunt just told the older sis to suck it up and endure the abuse. 2nd sis' saving grace moment is getting fl's help. fl is so darn smart. Who knew that was one of the way to inform ml of his sis' abuse. I find ml very charming and charasmatic when he's angry and serious. Sure it's amusing when he's all clingy and cute to fl, but I still prefer him to be ruthless.

What kinda effing law that an abused wife/concubine that ends her life will not go punished by the husband. WTF!?

Brilliantly written! 2nd sis basically answered others and my question on why ml is so smart and capable but his dad and uncle aren't. Instead, his dad and uncle are foolish and short sighted. Turns out old master was in the capital and left his sons to be raised by their mom. However, their mom is equally useless, short sighted and foolish...being raised by this type of parent heh, how successful can the children be? So ml, was raised by old master, thus all teachings, mind games and philosphy are from old master personally.

2nd madam/aunt is useless. She's a spineless tatertott that only follows ml's mom. She's selfish and stupid. That aunt gave me brain erosion. I will never survive if I timetravel in any Chinese period
