This is all interpretation!!! Lx kept mentioning she and his path are different. She wanted him to resign and stay far away from politics and court to perserve Lin family. It took 2 years for LJQ to realize the court is not what it once was, he can't serve the king anymore, so he resigned. The drama is very subtle that you have to think and make assumptions. He walked the path of the battlefield and when everything cleared up his mind was made up. When he came home and did the whole wine and kiss, it meant that he resigned as now he and lx's path are aligned. So their hearts and mind are one, metaphorically and phsycially.

There's no actual kiss until ep 39. I feel like you should still give it a chance. It might actually surprise you. There's plenty of idol dramas with plenty of romance and kiss scenes out there, but there's only one Against the Current. The cinematography, each characters' growth, the culture, everything is so rich. I haven't seen this type of drama in ages. It's a masterpiece without exaggeration. I kinda feel disappointed you may miss out on this piece. However, each their own. Enjoy what you love!

LX really has the foresight, I am always forever impressed with her. LJQ is smart but his foresight is not comparable to LX. I am very impressed that he listened to her. Just from the previews where lx suggests 3rd sis to seperate from marquis. I don't agree bc she already have 3 daughters and as a marquis wife she has all the dignity and wealthy. Being divorced at that age, she prob can't even remarry. I would've just sucked it up and stay marry. Thouhg my mind prob will change after watching tmr's ep. We shall see.

The way he was looking at the eunuchs and then at the sign that wrote eunuch's or inner court people (including consorts) are to not interfere with politics/court. Yet the eunuchs were doing just that and ljq knew it was time for him to step away. Then walking past the battle field was very profound for me. It was such a beautiful ep, but still, a kiss wouldn't have been too much ya know.

I think I realized why there's no filler scenes, the drama just cut to 3months, 6months, 1 yr, 2 year in the future. Time passes so quickly in a blink of an eye. It's crazy.
