Oh your right. Either way, glowing up a guy in modern day isn't any better for us ladies. Once a man becomes successful, they ditch their gf or wife, someone that's been with them thick and thin, helped him in times of need, even supported them financially, to find a hotter younger lady.

At least in this drama, our ljq gave merits where it's due. He admitted that his marquis title wasn't earned solely from him but LX also had a play in it. He's definitely ahead of his time, even ahead of the men in our time.

No means to be rude, truly, but you are so wrong. We all hyped up for the romance, aka the kiss and such that we overlooked the importance of the palace scenes. Tbh, I was disappointed in the kissing scene, I did wish for something more. However, after rewatching some scenes of LJQ, and reading the discussions on chinese media, I realized how much significance the earlier scenes were.

The eunuch, crickets and ml walking through the palace yards was a major significance that led to ljq resigning his commander post and retiring back to his hometown. While LX was at Jianling (hometown), probably went to bring 2nd brother's burial, LJQ was alone in the capital. It took him two full years to finally realize and understand that the court is no longer the same, the power balance has now transferred to the eunuchs.

2 years ago, when 2nd bro passed away, LJQ petitioned the king to allow him to bring his brother's burial back home but the king wouldn't allow, mainly bc his throne was not secure and he needed his right hand man (LJQ). Now, 2 years later, everything is settled, the King is laxed and enjoying hobbies and leisure, not paying attention or doing his duties as king (this will eventually lead to the downfall of Ming). The eunuchs are rising in power, they are becoming literate and controlling the court. LJQ sees all this, and doesn't think it's worth to serve his king anymore, thanks to LX planting a seed in him. So he resigned, and left.

The consummation of marriage has a meaning. It meant that their paths now align. Before, LX wouldn't accept LJQ bc their path didn't align, she wanted safe heaven, she's seen what politics can do to a whole family (shen family). She didn't believe one man (king) should dictate anyone's life/decision. At that time, LJQ was still in denial (it was during the beginning of that ep with the opera scene). The two raindrops on the flower petal symbolized their union in mind, body, soul, ideology etc.

Agree! I also wanted to add that LX is much more involved with LJQ's career and overall his life extending to the survival of Lin family. Compared to any Main wife in a household. She physically saved LJQ, endured the harsh winter with him, passed on the msg to 2nd brother so that he could save LJQ's siblings/cousins. She also woke him up to realize the power change in politics and court. So I agree when he said his Marquis title is not without the merit and help of LX too!
