Why waste a year in college when she can gain more expereince in the real world. 80s-90s in Shenzhen is so propsperous that it's real when one isn't afraid if working hard and enduring hardship can become successful and rich. I only finished up to ep 14 today, so maybe there's more "good fortune" that I haven't seen yet in upcoming eps. However, if you mean the "good fortune" from her adopted family resources such has her dad being vice mayor, and college etc. then I think it's because of guilt. After realizing she has no blood ties with adopted dad, there's this invisible line she couldn't cross anymore. I find it natural that behaviour will change and can't go back to how it was. For me, I wouldn't be able to throw attitude and tantrum on my parents anymore, bc I don't have that confidence and arrogance. No matter how in the past when I acted and my parents would dote on me. The perception and knowledge has change. That said, it's because of guilt. Fwz believes this love, resource anything adopted family gave her didn't belong to her. It's like she took someone's place. So, in order for her to lessen her conscience and to find another way to accept this she has to prove her worth. Hence why she wants to make it big, be successful in ShenZhen. So that one day she can be proud, she doesn't want to lose face to her adopted dad and she doesn't want him to worry or know her woes. She rather hide her troubles. I find that's very common in Chinese culture vs Western.

Ep 12-When adopted dad visited fwz. I feel like bc communication isn't as convenient and instant like today, it's always a waiting game. Poor man, everytime to see his daughter he waits half a day for her and by the time they do meet his time is running up and he has to leave.

I've never seen such positive word of mouth, review and buzz for a drama of this type, and of ss' drama. ss' drama typically get's anti's joining in to rally up, but I can't even see any anti posts. Or more like all the real, authentic posts overshadow any efforts the antis made. I go on weibo, douyin, little red book and all posts are positive. It's a drama that creates discussion, reflection, brings memories, reminisce. I keep reading comments that it brings the whole generation of families together in one place to watch TV. It's very heartwarming to know that a vast majority enjoy this drama and enjoy ss. It's another acknoledgement of her acting, and the cast as well!

I find admirable from fwz is her willingness to try new things, not being afraid to start fresh and from the bottom, dipping her toes in all aspects in life to find her true calling, while still instilling her mom's values and philosphy.

This has nothing to do with old liu's approval of lj wedding with the soldier. His son SAed Fwz when he grabbed her from behind. There was no warning, NO CONSENT. Then he also got qianqian preggo, and If I rmb correctly it was during the time he and her drove to buy food supplies. I will be judgemental with this, this can't be overlooked just bc his dad has a bit more moral.

Haha yes, it’s based on true story. I’m not 100% sure, but a friend told me that on ep 12 LJ asked Fwz why she wasn’t able to call him dad. So there should be an explanation but I’m only on ep 10 so can’t verify if it’s true

This is based on a true story. if the actual fwz didn’t go back to university then it’s not the screen writer’s fault for sticking with true events. Fwz did go back for night school though.

I don't like seeing adopted dad being disappointed or sad. I wish they can just fastforward to them reconcile

I really like listening to ss' voice when she does those little monologues or voice overs of a scene. The stuff she says is so insighful, and her voice and tone hold so much depth and story.

Your opinion is very common and similar to many. This is what some have explained why she couldn't call her adopted dad dad anymore:
-once she found out she's adopted, no matter how doting those adopted parents are there will always be awkwardness. fwz mentioned a few times that she was able to live in a good environment that didn't belong to her

Sorry it's a lot. These are generally the main reasons I kept seeing others say. Honestly, I get fwz and if I was in her shoes I wouldn't have the face to behave the same was as I was to my dad: whinny, clingly, complaining, acting like a spoiled child. Instead I would be more respectful, awkwardness, constantly on my tippy toes.

Also, knowing the school witness the whole ugly shabang of her and hanbin clawing at each others' face, I feel like she is too embarrassed to go back to the same uni. Students will talk behind her back. There's also the fact that her eyes are open to the endless possibility of ShenZhen. Back then, ShenZhen was the first port to be developed, so the saying that if you work hard you will get rich was true.
