basically. intl viewers like to watch romance and pretty costumes or fantasy period. This drama is doing really well in China, and that's really what matters. Especially this drama where it takes place in 80s to early 00s China, I don't think intl fans can relate, while many Chinese older viewers can.

Unfortunately, it's true, however it's on douban so it's not a credible source anymore. I saw it being mentioned on wb, and a lot of people comented on that post that it's a good show, and these haters are scared and rating 1 star. Also, for once, cvb speaks for itself, it's the only rating that can't be manipulated bc it counts on live viewership. Therefore, the 1 star doesn't align with the high viewership ratings. MD has a good rep right now, so any trolls trying to spread hate actually isn't working, unlike XY-that was horrible to witness.

A fan posted, I haven't watched that far in the drama. Either way, I find it endearing to have her dad so close with her. He's always there at the set waiting for her, and sometimes doing a small cameo role. This would be his 3rd one, unless there's more I wasn't aware of.

Like I mentioned prior, romance is really insignificant here. This isn't a romcom or idol drama. This drama spans about 3 decades of her life until she's about in her 50s/60s where she goes back to her hometown to settle down. You are welcome to watch her other drama Against the Current when it airs! Definitely lots of romance =)

Honestly, it's touching, all the comments I've read from cnetizens is that they cried every ep, or that their eyes are sore from crying, or that even number eps have the ost crying scenes. SS even posted on wb handing out money so that fans/viewers can use it to buy tissue. I think I'm taking a bit longer to watch bc my eyes need a break.

No male lead, but many male characters. She has 4 romances in her life, but arent the leads. It's a story about a woman making it big in the city. She encouter romances but it's not like idol dramas where romance is the main plot.
