I hate flashbacks, and I have no patience for the first few episodes of anything I watch. So I skipped a lot of the first few episodes of this. Then i got so lost about episode 3. I just came here and asked questions and was easily filled in on everything. It did not ruin my viewing experience at all.

All you really need to know is there is a sickly crown prince. His main sources of military and political support are the Yan family and the Xue family. The Xue family is headed up by the crown prince's mother the empress dowager, and the Duke of Xue, the empress dowager's brother.

The crown prince is well aware that the Xue family has way too much power and is angling for the throne as his health keeps deteriorating. The only check he has against them is the Yan family, but he doesn't know if he can fully trust them either.

The story is about how the FL messes up her whole life just to get the throne and keep it, and ends up dying a horrible death because of all the people she f*cked over to get to where she is. After that death, she is given the chance to start over again and make different choices. She spends a good part of the beginning of the story comparing "first life" events with "second life" events to change certain outcomes she wants to avoid.

And the ML is like a wildcard, the mystery she has to solve. So i can't spoil who he is for you or how he fits in. Suffice it to say, he is the most trusted political advisor to the crown prince.

And that's your basic outline.

If you listen closely, you can hear the sound of a bunch of 15yo's seething, far off in the distance....

Based on your watchlist, I think you'd be better off watching any of the following rather than this crappy drama: Crazy Love, Devilish Joy, Doom At Your Service, Shopping King Louie, Love To Hate You, Oh My Venus, King of High School Savvy, It's Okay Not To Be Okay, or Lost Romance.

I just finished a rewatch, and I thought he was hotter on the rewatch. I love the way they styled his clothes and hair to suit his personality and his looks. The only thing that keeps my 2ML syndrome in check is the fact that I think Xie Wei is the hottest and most mesmerizing ML character I've ever seen. If it had been anyone else besides Ling He playing that ML, I would probably have shipped FL with Yan Lin. Jun Wei has some excellent fight scenes in this drama where he looks like such a total badass hottie. I think his best action scenes are in the last 2 episodes.

Yknow who else did a fantastic job in this was Jiang Xiao Lin as Dao Qin. Normally they give him kind of hammy roles and his acting is more theatrical and over-emotive. But in this one, his acting is greatly subdued and he was GREAT. They made him look hot.

What's interesting, is that looking at your watchlist, you and I have COMPLETELY different tastes in dramas, and different ideas about what makes an ideal romance or an ideal ML. And yet we both know there is no chemistry here.

If two actors irl hate eachother and have to play a couple, you can sense that coming off the screen the same way you can sense if two actors feel rl attraction for eachother. I think you can also sense when there is too little privacy or a hostile feeling on the set when romantic scenes are filmed.... it doesn't even have to be the actors that ruin it, it can be that the director ruined the chemistry that could have happened between two actors.

I think there is a kind of chemistry that is objective and real. And another kind that is made up in the mind of a viewer that's objectively false. People with a normal-or-above EQ can tell if there's REAL chemistry with an onscreen couple. People with a lower EQ get confused about these things and can't distinguish real chemistry from false.

Of course it's a burner, you would know, you've only made about 30 of them this month.

imo it was absolutely called for. Trying to control someone else's words because you don't like them, isn't a substitute for a salient argument. This isn't a fan page. It's for people's feedback and thoughts about a show. Well. That was my thoughts about this show. You don't have special rights to a comments section just because you liked a show.

Hands - On the rewatch I think it was ep 17, he's sitting there with his qin in front of him on the desk and he says to Ning'er that she shouldn't visit him when it's snowing because he "might not be able to control himself", and as he's saying it, his thumb is unconsciously smoothing over the qin. The literal context is supposed to be that he might hurt or kill her, but the unspoken subcontext is fire. That was a great scene.

I see you don't do j-dramas, but if you ever want to venture out... Koi wa Tsuzuku yo Doko Made mo is a doctor romance that's decent. I'm about as hard a grader as you are and I gave it an 8. It falls more in the "fluff" category though. So you have to be in the mood for it.

Yeah, I'll put You are My Hero on my plan-to-watch shortlist. I've seen so much stuff that at this point, it's hard to even find 8's anymore. But that just makes finding something good that much more exciting.

I still havent seen Yangxi Palace yet. Everyone who I respect their tastes just says it's the greatest thing ever, so I should probably check that one out too.

I tried Lost You Forever.... had to drop early because even KNOWING the white haired vampy demon wasn't going to get the girl from the outset.... I still started shipping them so hard I just had to quit before it got worse. I think I dropped at ep 7.

I saw A Journey To Love. That was complete trash.

Aiayaa... the world of asian drama is a rough place for a vampire affectionado. I'd trade you reccs, but idk if you'd like what I like. We have some overlap and also some stark differences on our watchlists. But I'd watch You Are My Hero based off your 9 score. Sounds interesting.

I have zero dreams about song kang, unlike vanessa. imo he's just meh. kind of goofy lookin. My night shall consist of coffee, ice cream, SoKP rewatch, and my persian cat playing with my shoelaces.

Doesn't surprise me at all. There is no real romance in it until about ep 28 or so, roughly. But then.....

I'll be interested to see what you think of it when you finish. But yeah, to me, the whole first 28 episodes I was like "wtf am I even doing here", it was a slog. Suffice to say, imo.... that turned out to be a 28 episodes quite well-invested. To me, anyways, It has good reviews, and a good MDL score, so I don't feel like I'm alone in thinking it rocked. But hopefully it will be fun for you. Nothing sucks more than watching something that makes you wish you could get your time back.

I could see that. Idk if you watched My Fated Boy, but it's a older FL/younger clingy ML. I LOVED it so much, and the ML looks kind of like SK and I thought he was hot in that, despite being mildy goofy looking.

I"m rewatching SoKP right now, for lack of anything better to watch... because nothing is better than SoKP gahhh! I love his mad face. Those eyebrows are fierce, his eyes are almost black they're so dark. So intense.

Mannn you are gonna love the ending, oh boy I'm so excited for you to be watching it for the first time. I hope you like it as much as I did, cheers.

I think he's OKAY. I do think the FL is gorgeous though. She has probably the prettiest nose I've ever seen. I don't know if it's natural or surgery. But if it was surgery, it was worth every penny and her surgeon should be canonized and made into a saint.
