On Ep 9 and finding it slow...Is it worth sticking around for the romance?
It doesn't get much faster than that. A story of self empowerment and creativity which fizzles out and suffers from a lack of full dimensional supporting characters except for Cui Shi Jiu. By the end the pearl as a talisman gets ignored and is supplanted by some other shiney object. The romance is doomed.
Finished the first four and I like what I see. As usual in these timewarp/rebirth dramas I get confused. Maybe the subtitles aren't as forthcoming as the dialogue would be if I could understand Mandarin. Compared to the FL who seems to have things firmly in hand, the ML cuts a sad figure. The new itiration of the monk is amusing.
Surely there is no need to label anyone who has anything critical to say about the drama, casting or the storyline an 'anti'. I'm liking this drama. have alway appreciated Tan Son Yun's acting chops, Zheng Ye Cheng is an actor I haven't see too much of and can't really recall from My Sassy Princess. He is doing a good job in this role following his revenge and incidentally siding with Yingying. I find both both Yingying and her brother here represented by actor who looke too mature for the characters. Not enjoying the constant haranguing of and physical abuse of the 'children' by their mother. Where does she get the energy, isn't she supposed to be sick? The general and his daughter are proper evil foes
The rating seem to going slowly downhill. Must be because her romance is down the tubes and Mask Face is such a creep. Her father, the general, is just a bully who has everyone seeing Shu Red and Yingying's brother getting the snots. FLs treating MLs' wounds is always hilarious in these period dramas. Between putting the bandages on top of the clothes or working through gauze screens, we can't have her see any naked male fleash. None of them have learned to suture a gaping wound or wrap a bandage around a body so it's not gaping open, or even manage to tie a knot. Pathetic to watch.
Just finished ep. 7 and enjoyed Yingying's nemisis getting tortured with sleep deprivation. I really like her friend the restaurant owner as well and hope she gets together with her brother. Yingying's main squeeze is pretty low key. I can't see any real passion in that relationship. Instead Jinlan can run circles around her. When are they going to feel that spark?
I watched Tan Song Yun in another 'Brocade' drama years ago when she played a child bride who has to survive in a household full of scheming concubines. They haven't let her age much in the intervening years as she's still playing ingenue roles.
Ep. 29 was epic. Battle Royal with bandits. Scrorching fire trap. Wounded by arrow in exactly the same spot as Duanwu. Still she dabs on healing powder and cleans his fevered brow going so far as to stage a night of bliss with a willing Jinran. And why not, he's a pleasing hunk. The remainder of the Cui and the leftover young Zheng are getting help from corrupt Xu but to no avail it's another fail.
I keep coming here off and on and the rating keeps going down slightly. I can see why. I'm at ep 28 and am mostly bored with turn of events. When they resort to fickle mobs to try and get some drama you know the screenwriters have run out of ideas.
I'm crawling my way through ep. 23-25 as it is getting tedious. Totally disappointed that whenever ZiJing makes an appearance he is coughing blood and is in great pain. That's not what I signed up for. Some sites are putting up spoilers about the ending . They should be shamed and boycotted.
