I love those intimate piggyback rides. This is a fine, intricate drama with great characters. The OST gives it just the right intimate feeling. The only thing I find puzzling are the costume designs, not so much for the women but the men's voluminous, sackcloth look is really different. I want to mention what a great job the actor portraying MingYu is doing. I remember liking him from his role in The Sword and the Brocade.
I'm really appreciate this drama's different take on the hero as well as his sidekicks. One thing has been annoying me is the constant super tight shots of people's eyes.
With such a high rating, I'm surprised this little gem seem to go under the radar. Miss Chun was a delight, smart and loyal. The three male leads were handsome, but Lord Han turned out to be such a disappointment. For those of use who like mature guys, Miss Chun's dad was nice to look at and was also an upright character to boot.
I'm liking this but it's hard to wait between episodes. I don't know who is going to end up with whom but I think the actor that's playing Sergeant should get to be a male lead in a historical drama soon.
I'm loving it. While the girls are not believable boys at least it allows them to act out of traditional roles. Obstacles be damned, let's get these two together. Episodes are coming at a snail's pace.
I was hesitant at first to see one of my favourite actors in such a state, but the intricacies of this drama are really worth watching. Cheng Ren and Chuai Jia's best friend are also great characters. Especially, don't miss the last 3 to 4 episodes. I give this drama a 9.5 rating.
The new sister-in-law arrival is a blood sucker. I'm zipping through the Mommy Dearest part as fast as I can because she was already dislikable when she was her overbearing self with He Ran. Now that she's spending all her time in the utility closet for whatever trauma, she even harder to watch. Sadly, the young, likable guy is spending too much time in her presence thus I only watch him whe he's with He Ran. The main leads are charismatic and sweet together so who needs anyone else.
wow somehow i ship zhang ping and the king so much 🤗. finished it:)
Yeah, there's a definite vibe going on there. I also loved when Wang Yan carried Zhang Ping piggyback even though I think he had a thing for Lan Jue. We didn't get many details about what the Gu guy and Lan Jue were doing in that little shack on the island for all those years.
Just finished this series. Many good things about this drama and its actors. Bromances galore are fun to watch with plenty of mysterious goings-on. I like the soundscape and the visual treats. Too bad due to censorship this BL story was not allowed to come into full bloom and it also made the story quite choppy. Kudos to the performances of Jing Bo Ran, Hong Yao but sadly those lovable lips of Song Wei Long were never to be kissed.
Your comment says a lot about how women are portrayed in xianxia/wuxia/historical C-dramas. Not a normal woman…
Yes, often that's the case and we must object when we see these portrayals/betrayals of women. Once in a while, there is a drama that gives us interesting, strong female roles like the two leads in Side Story of Fox Volant.
