I agree. He needs good scripts (though he always tries to make the best even of a bad script), great co-stars and a director who knows what to do with someone like him. In a way, that is true for most actors, but especially for someone like him who so obviously has the ability but lacks the opportunities.

I'm so happy this drama is doing so well. I've been a fan of Liu Xueyi for years and have always admired his acting and professionalism, but he never really got the recognition/had the success with his main roles that I thought he deserved based on his acting chops. I hope this drama will change that.
(Though he was quite popular in The Blood of Youth - but he sadly barely appeared in that one.)

This gives me Guardians of the Dafeng/The Immortal Ascension vibes. ... But especially Guardians.
Both dramas were based on harem stories as well, if I remember correctly, but in the end there was barely any romance in them.

That's not a complaint, though — on the contrary. I've come to enjoy this type of drama exactly because of that.

Tomb of the Sea was literally my favorite one of these dramas until this one came out (and now they share first place). Lots to love about it.
